We enjoy the gardens, the special exhibits, and the over-all atmosphere. The Holiday Train Show is just something you need to see. The Orchid Exhibit was lovely. It is relaxing to walk around and enjoy the scenery. It might seem busy at times, but you can surely find places to roam around where it is quiet! The tram ride is also good because you can get on and off at different spots to enjoy a particular area. Great year round!

This is a beautiful garden and they always have an interesting show in the greenhouse. I actually thought about having my wedding there, but decided against only because we changed the city we got married in. It seems a wonderful place to get married. But, just in general it’s always worth a visit.
This garden is a wonderful oasis in the city. Head indoors to the Enid Haupt observatory when the weather turns wet or cold and enjoy a lush, colorful presentation of tropical plants. The annual orchid show is a must see . The new Native Plant garden is worth the trip alone as are the rhododendrons and azaleas . I think the Zoo and Garden would be too much for one day, but I like to linger.
The Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden
The Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden is one of the most beautiful places in the botanical garden. 650 varieties of roses grow here, entrancing thousands of visitors. Beatrix Farrand designed the garden in 1916, but it wasnt completed until 1988 with the support of David Rockefeller, of Rockefeller Center. He named it Peggy Rockefeller in honor of his wife.

Luesther T Mertz Library
Founded in 1899 and named after supporter LuEsther Mertz,:33 the LuEsther T. Mertz Library is located in the northern section of NYBG. A 2002 New York Times article mentioned that the library had 775,000 items and 6.5 million plant specimens in its collection. However, a book published in 2014 by the NYBG mentioned that the library had “550,000 physical volumes and 1,800 journal titles”.:33 As of 2016 the Mertz Library still contained one of the world’s largest collections of botany-related texts. Stephen Sinon, who leads the NYBG’s special collections, research and archives, called its collection “the largest of its kind in the world under one roof”.
The library is housed in what was formerly known as the NYBG’s Museum Building or Administration Building. Construction started in 1897 and it was completed in 1900. The structure was designed by Robert W. Gibson in the Renaissance Revival style.:1

Enid A Haupt Conservatory
The Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, named after Enid A. Haupt, is a greenhouse near the western end of the NYBG. The conservatory was designed by the major greenhouse company of the late 1890s, Lord and Burnham Co. The design was modeled after the Palm House at the Royal Botanic Garden and Joseph Paxton‘s Crystal Palace in Italian Renaissance style. Groundbreaking took place on January 3, 1899, and the conservatory was completed in 1902 at a cost of $177,000. The building was constructed by John R. Sheehan under contract for the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation. Since the original construction, major renovations took place in 1935, 1950, 1978, and 1993.
The conservatory houses numerous tropical plants and flowers, cacti and other desert plants, and rainforest vegetation. In summer months, the two pools adjacent to the conservatory display many varieties of lotuses and water lilies.
What Is The New York Botanical Garden Entrance Fee
There are two different admission fees: The All-garden Pass which grants access to everything in the Garden and costs:* $ 30 for adults, $ 28 for students and seniors and $ 15 for 2-12 years * $ 23 for adults, $ 20 for students and seniors and $ 10 for 2-12 years
The Grounds-Only Admission, only available for NYC residents which gives access to all the external and is costs:* $ 15 for adults, $ 7 for students and seniors and $ 4 for 2-12 years
The Grounds-Only pass is free to everyone regardless of residency, all day on Wednesday and Saturday between 9 am and 10 am.

I think there are 3 true tips: The first is for tourists like me who do not want to walk 15 km in the park but want to see every part. There in the Botanical Garden, a bus called the tram, which is included in the admission fee and tour by the Botanical Garden with several stops.If you do not take the tram, you have two options: either you are going all around the garden, or you make the return trip on the same path, which I think is a bit silly unless your super passionate
The second tip is for geek and botany enthusiast. The Botanical Garden has developed iOS application to enjoy your visit. There is even a tour you can follow with your headphones.
The third tip is for locals. I discovered that there were plenty of New Yorkers who had an annual pass and who came there for a run !!!And frankly, they are so right, it has to be very nice to run in this beautiful Botanical Gardens instead of running through the streets of the Bronx !!!

Wait Till May To Visit
Visited on a cold windy day. The indoor orchid display was nice. The varieties were repeated frequently in different areas of the conservatory. Enjoyed Longwood Gardens OrKids Days better. Took the tram ride around the property. Learned from narration May till the fall is the premium time to to visit. Come when the weather is pleasant. Was frozen after the tram ride. Walked awhile in azalea garden to warm up but limited foliage in the garden. Loved the gift shop. Would love to visit again when weather is better to see if my opinions change.

It was really great to return after the long dreary winter to the New York Botanical Garden. We headed out early this morning to see ORCHIDELIRIUM, the latest version of the annual orchid show they hold there. Many vibrant colors of flowers were in the various indoor gardens, and even though we’ve been to the site numerous times, we always feel we are seeing new things. The flowers grow differently each year after all! We also rode on the tram to see the magnolia trees in bloom. It was cool and windy, but the sun came out, so we had pretty much the perfect day to be outdoors. Now we get to celebrate a second time with this selection of photos! Hope you like them.

As I said above, all seasons are nice.If youre lucky enough to live in NYC, you may go for all four seasons !!!!But if you have to choose just one it would be the month of May !!! Because spring is coming with the flowers blossom, the trees become all green again, the birds are out singing its always the best time to visit a garden!

A piece of living history is to be found in the Arthur and Janet Ross Conifer Arboretum. This garden is visited by many people looking to see and touch the first trees planted in the Botanical Garden in the early 1900s. The Arboretum contains more than 250 pine trees: from trees that came from the alpines in American West to trees from the boreal forests of Alaska.

What Can Be Seen At The New York Botanical Garden
The botanical garden is composed of 27 different outdoor and indoor venues with greenhouses to keep plants alive throughout the year.I will not describe all the places, but I will highlight the ones I preferred, and they are a must-do.
Home Gardening Center: this garden gathers many flowers and plants, and evolves with the seasons with its bulb flowers such as tulips but also with its flowering trees.
Haupt Conservatory: This Victorian type of greenhouse is for me one of the prettiest places in the NY Botanical Garden. It houses many tropical plants, flowers And there is also a beautiful pool area with water lilies and aquatic plants.
Luce Herb Garden: It is very nice to wander this symmetrical garden, in between flowers, shrubs and plants.
Everett Childrens Adventure Garden: Here you will find space for children. Each season, the themes vary. For my visit in mid-October, you can see it was decorated with a Halloween theme.
Native Plant Garden: This garden is 3.5 hectares and was designed by architect Sheila Brady. It brings together almost 100 000 native trees, shrubs, wildflowers, ferns and grasses that provide shelter and food for local wildlife: squirrels, butterflies, birds, frogs

Not A Glowing Review For Glow
Drove in from NJ to see NYBG Glow with friends. Bought 6 tickets at $30 AND paid $20 parking for two cars- only to be disappointed. Thought it would be fun to see some great creative light displays with the music we read about, but there wasnt much to see. we walked the garden loop lit by fun snowflake balls with two side garden walks through a lit ball garden with a steel drum duo and the other a giant gazebo. Only to then walk a partially lit path to the ice sculpture – nice but not too exciting -and then came upon one single hip hop dancer performing to the dance of the sugar plum fairies. Then we were at the front gate again. Nothing truly unique or inspiring throughout the walk, and certainly NOT worth the admission fee or parking. Wasnt expecting crazy light displays like you see in some neighborhoods, but something with pizazz or interesting light effects were expected, not just lit paths and colored up lights on buildings. In total, with a bathroom stop, we were there 35 minutes. Didnt see a point in standing in the cold line for over priced hot chocolate at the end.
