The highlight of any stay at The Carlyle isnt necessarily the lobby or the rooms, although those are pretty spectacular. Its the bars and cafes you can find inside! Bemelmans Bar, with its whimsical murals on the walls depicting the adventures of Madeline, has been featured in movies like Sex and the City and Woody Allen used to play at the Cafe Carlyle.

The Mark Upper East Side
You probably recognize the exterior of The Mark. Why? Because every Monday in May, its in the background of a million paparazzi photos as celebrities from Lady Gaga to Kendall Jenner depart from its lobby to the Met Gala.
Its inside is of equal grandeur: designed by Jacques Grange, who also did interiors for Yves Saint Laurent and the Princess of Monaco, the lobby is adorned in bold black and white stripes. Added bonus: Its restaurant, The Mark by by Jean-Georges, is divine. Order their cheeseburger with black truffle dressing.
Like The Carlyle, its located in close proximity to many major museums and is half a block from Central Parkof which some suites even have an expansive view.

The solid reputation also means some rooms feel a bit corporate, but there are no surprises here and all rooms are spacious and recently renovated. We stayed in a suite but solidly stand behind their Standard King Room as the best choice.
