Our Take On The New York Sightseeing Pass

The New York Sightseeing Pass is definitely the most extensive of all the passes, and with the two pricing schemes, the Day Pass or the Flex Pass, the pass is an interesting option for almost all travelers.

Since February, 2019, the Empire State Building is unfortunately no longer included. If youd like to go up the Empire State Building then, you have to buy a separate ticket for it.

Although the Empire State Building isnt included anymore, the Sightseeing Pass is still a really good choice for all whod like to experience as much as possible in New York. In comparison to the New York Pass, you simply get more with the Sightseeing Pass and it includes many high-quality attractions that are missing in the New York Pass.

Another major advantage of the Sightseeing Pass is of course the unlimited use of the Hop-on-Hop-off-Busses. If youd like to explore the city with these busses, then this pass is a really good choice for you.

Anyone whod like a little more flexibility and who doesnt want to visit 3 attractions per day would be well advised with the Sightseeing Flex Pass.

You can buy the Sightseeing Pass over the German booking platform GetYourGuide. Its usually a little cheaper there.

Which New York Pass Is Suitable For Whom

Needless to say, we cant give the ultimate answer here, since a different New York pass is the best option for each person.

These are the types of travelers:

Which Is Better New York Pass Or New York Explorer Pass

I’m confused with the difference between the two. We will be there for 12 days in April next year. The Explorer seems cheaper? Is the hop on hop off bus good or should we just buy all day subway passes? We want to do the usual touristy things eg

    Option C – NEITHER.

These passes are all heavily advertised to tourists, but really are not much of a bargain. Here is why:

First, much of what makes NYC great has nothing whatsoever to do with any of these passes. Places like the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, The Staten Island Ferry, wandering around Greenwich Village, Rockefeller Center. In addition, some of the tourist bargains on these cards have nothing to do with NYC – places like Madame Tousauds.

Second – These cards encourage racing around the City in a tourist marathon to make the card pay off. I would rather take my time. Unless this is something that you enjoy doing, I would take a pass at the pass.

There is an OPTION D as well, which will probably work well for first time tourists.

There is the Go Select Pass, which enables you, the tourist, to choose which of the major tourist attractions you wish to visit. You load them all up, get a decent discount, and then you have PLENTY of time to plan your vacation around NYC.

Plan what you want to see and buy a 7 day unlimited metro card for subway, great value $30 gets you everywhere all day..

The Go Select Pass sounds like its worth looking into,as well as the Metro pass. Thanks so much.

Did We Save Money With The New York Citypass

    New York City Pass Discounts

In our experience, the New York CityPASS was worth buying because it did save us a lot of money. We were extra happy to have got it on sale- a good benefit of visiting at the end of January when its low-season.

Since not everyone will be able to buy the pass when its on sale, were going to use the regular price when calculating how much we saved using the CityPASS in New York. Heres a breakdown of what we spent and saved with the New York CityPASS.

New York CityPASS Purchase Price= $126

    Empire State Building AM/PM Experience= $54.85 value

American Museum of Natural History= $28.00 value

Top of the Rock Observation Deck= $39.20 value

Circle Line Sightseeing Landmark Cruise= $37.00 value

Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum= $33 value

Total Savings: If we were to pay for all those entrance fees, it would have cost us $192.50 each. Subtract the $126 to buy the pass and we saved $66.50 each, or 35% off the regular box office price.

This is a significant amount of savings considering we only used the pass to visit 5 of the 6 possible attractions .

However, it is worth noting that the American Museum of Natural History has a pay-what-you-wish option, so the $23 general admission fee is just a suggestion . Even without the pass, we probably would have paid the full amount anyways, since we dont mind supporting such a fantastic museum.

How Much Do Discount Passes Cost Is There Any Discount For Children

Prices vary according with the number of days you will use them or the number of attractions included. Some can start at U$100 a day, U$200 for two days and U$400 for 10 days, so the longer you have it, the cheaper it might be. Yes, most of them offer discount for children. The CityPASS costs U$132 per adult including 6 attractions but they offer coupon codes here and there for discounts.

    How Much Does Citypass Cost

A New York CityPASS costs $109 for adults and $82 for youth , which represents a discount of about 40 percent off of the combined cost for full-price individual ticketsthis works out to a savings of up to $74 per adult and $58 per child. Note that for kids under 6 years old, only a handful of attractions require ticketed admission, so you’ll need to determine, based on their age, whether or not a CityPASS is right for them. Attractions where admission is required for younger children include the American Museum of Natural History Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island and Circle Line Sightseeing Cruise .

    New York Go Select Pass

The Go Select Pass is also known as New York Go Pass and a customized pass that lets you choose your attractions in advance. The pass offers reduced rates for the attractions. Overall, you can save up to 20% with the Go Select Pass, compared to regular admission fees. Once activated, you have 30 days to complete your New York sightseeing program.

What attractions and tours are included in the Go Select Pass?

The Go Select Pass includes all important attractions and tours in New York and allows you to totally customize your pass. However, you do need to decide what you want to see while booking. Once set, you cant make changes. You can find the full list of included attractions here.

How much does the Go Select Pass cost?

The price of your Go Select Pass is very dependent on the attractions and tours you choose. In general, you will save 10 to 20% with the pass.

Is the Go Select Pass worth it?

No! The Go Select Pass lacks flexibility. Once booked, you cannot change your mind if youd like to visit a different attraction. On top of that, the savings with the Go Select Pass are slimmer compared to other passes, like the Sightseeing Flex Pass or New York Explorer Pass.

New York Pass Review: How It Works

When it comes to sightseeing passes, the New York Pass ranks at the top of the value scale. Quite frankly, the New York Pass may be the best sightseeing pass Ive reviewed and from a sightseeing pass connoisseur like me, thats saying something!

But, I dont just take my word for it. Heres how it works:

The New York Pass offers free entry to over 100 of New York Citys top attractions and tours. It is activated upon the first use, and your unlimited use of the pass remains valid for the entire length of purchase. Passes come in a variety of lengths, with 10 days being the longest option available.

To use the pass, simply present it at the gate of the included attraction and walk right in for free. No cash or tickets are needed.

Although you can only visit each included attraction once, you may visit an unlimited amount of attractions that are included with the pass. Since Day 1 starts when the pass is activated, its best to start using it early in the morning. That way, you get a full days worth of sightseeing on your first day.

Keep in mind that the length of the pass is calculated in consecutive days. Therefore, its best to use it several days in a row.
