How Many People Were Injured
At least 29 people were treated at hospitals for gunshot wounds, smoke inhalation and other conditions. Ten people were shot..
Five of the victims were in critical but stable condition. There were no life-threatening injuries, Sewell said.
“We are truly fortunate that this was not significantly worse than it is,” Sewell said at a press conference.
No Metropolitan Transportation Authority workers were injured, the New York’s Public Transit Union said in a statement.

Nypd Seeking Person Of Interest In Brooklyn Subway Shooting
The New York Police Department said they are seeking a person of interest in connection to the Brooklyn subway shooting who they believe rented the U-Haul van whose keys were found at the scene.
Police are investigating whether he has any connection to the shooting and have not named him as a suspect.
Officials say they are looking for 62-year-old Frank James who has addresses in both Wisconsin and Philadelphia. Officials believe James rented the U-Haul truck in Philadelphia that was found in Brooklyn.
“We are endeavoring to locate him to determine his connection to the subway shooting, if any,” NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said during a news conference Tuesday. “The two crime scenes, the subway and the van, are very active and are still being processed.”
The key of the U-Haul van was found at the crime scene in the subway, the official said, which led to the recovery of the van in Brooklyn.
Mr. James is just a person of interest we know right now who rented that U-Haul van in Philadelphia, Essig said. The keys to that U-Haul van was found in the subway in our shooter’s possessions. We dont know right now if Mr. James has any connection to the subway. Thats still under investigation.
Essig said they do not have anyone in custody at the moment related to the shooting.
“We are asking anyone’s help with information. Cell phone video, witness information or if they can identify the perpetrator or the renter of this vehicle,” Essig said.
National Leaders Offer Prayers Assistance
President Joe Biden said his staff is in touch with New York City authorities and pledged federal help in bringing the gunman to justice.
“My wife, Jill, and I are praying for those who are injured and all those touched by that trauma,” Biden said in Menlo, Iowa.
“And were grateful for all the first responders who jumped in action, including civilians, civilians who didnt hesitate to help their fellow passengers and tried to shield them.”
Tuesdays bloodshed comes as New York City companies and employees struggle with return-to-office debates and whether workers should be forced back to offices theyve barely seen over the last two years because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Is The Nyc Subway Safe Mayor Eric Adams Addresses Challenges
James, who has addresses in Wisconsin and Philadelphia, was not named as a suspect, and detectives want to determine whether he witnessed the attack, Essig said. The van was rented in Philadelphia, he said.
Police said they were looking into social media posts from someone with the same name that mentioned homelessness, New York and Mayor Eric Adams, leading officials to beef up the mayors security detail.
The shooter set off two smoke canisters and opened fire with a Glock 9 mm handgun, shooting 33 rounds that struck the 10 gunshot victims, authorities said.
Investigators later recovered from the subway station a gun with a magazine attached, two additional magazines, ammunition, a hatchet and a container of what is believed to be gasoline, New York Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said at the news conference.
Any possible motive was unknown.
The attack triggered a massive law enforcement response, and a manhunt continued into Tuesday evening.

Biden Says His Team Is In Touch With Local Officials: Were Not Letting Up
President Biden and Attorney General Merrick B. Garland are being regularly briefed on the investigation into the Tuesday morning shooting in Brooklyn that left numerous people injured and disrupted subway service on the countrys busiest transit system, officials said.
My wife Jill and I pray for those who are injured and all those touched by that trauma, Mr. Biden said, adding that his team has been in touch with Mayor Eric Adams and the N.Y.P.D.
Until the perpetrator has been found, Mr. Biden added, Were not letting up on it.
The F.B.I. and agents with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, who have expertise in tracing firearms and identifying possible explosive devices, were on the scene supporting local law enforcement, an agency spokesman said.
Mr. Garland has received a preliminary briefing and is monitoring the situation in Brooklyn, his spokeswoman said in an email.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said on Twitter that he was closely monitoring the situation and ready to offer the city any help it needed.
While there were no early indications the shooting was connected to a wider plot, transit systems and local police departments have heightened their vigilance.

Brooklyn Shooting Witness Recounts Sequence Of Events
The frightening situation unfolded as panicked commuters ran from the train as others limped out of it. At least one collapsed on the platform.
“My subway door opened into calamity. It was smoke and blood and people screaming,” eyewitness Sam Carcamo told radio station 1010 WINS. Smoke poured out of the train car as the door opened, he added.
The gunfire erupted on a subway train that pulled into a station in the Sunset Park neighbourhood, about a 15-minute train ride from Manhattan and predominantly home to Hispanic and Asian communities.
Sewell earlier said the attack was not being investigated as terrorism but added that she was “not ruling out anything.”

The shooting came as the city was already struggling to cope with both a rise in shootings citywide and an increase in crime and disorder in the subway that has scared commuters from returning to a transit system that saw ridership plummet during the pandemic. It set off panic and chaos aboard the train, in the station and the surrounding streets and sent schools in the vicinity into lockdowns that lasted much of the day.
Mayor Eric Adams said that the search for the gunman was hampered by the fact that at least one security camera at the 36th Street subway station that might have captured the scene was not operating.
The N train snakes through working-class neighborhoods filled with immigrants from all over Asia and Latin America. As the shooting unfolded and the doors of the train opened, sending smoke billowing through 36th Street station, fearful riders fled, many of them hurrying onto an R train sitting across the platform. Subway seats and cars were streaked with blood as people called for help.
Around the 36th Street station, dozens of police vehicles with flashing lights clogged the streets and helicopters flew overhead.

People Were Shot 13 Others Wounded In Attack In A Brooklyn Subway Station
New York City police say they are looking for a 62-year-old man in connection to a shooting in a Brooklyn subway station this morning which left dozens injured, including 10 people who were shot.
Investigators say a gunman in a gas mask and a construction vest set off a smoke canister on a rush-hour subway train in Brooklyn and opened fire at 8:23 a.m. on Tuesday, firing 33 times. Police were scouring the city for the shooter after locating a rental truck connected to the crime scene.
“At this time, we still do not know the suspect’s motivation,” Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell told reporters at an evening briefing. “Clearly the individual boarded the train and was intent on violence.”
Along with the 10 people shot, another 13 were hurt either as they rushed to get out of the station or suffered smoke inhalation. None of the injuries is considered life threatening.

Six Injured During Smoke
Firefighters made a number of daring rescues during a two-alarm blaze in Brooklyn that injured six people Sunday morning.
Units responded to a call at 3400 Snyder Ave. in East Flatbush just after 10:35 a.m. on Jan. 22 and arrived to find thick black smoke billowing out of the apartments fifth floor windows and the inferno extending to the top floor of the six-story building.
Fire Department personnel crawled past heavy fire with low visibility to reach victims, one of whom suffered severe burns and smoke inhalation. EMS administered CPR and oxygen on site before transporting the victim to a local hospital, where they were listed in critical condition as of Sunday afternoon.
Five others were injured, including one civilian and one firefighter currently listed in serious condition. Two more firefighters and one more civilian were also listed in stable condition.
In all, more than 140 firefighters utilized three hose-lines to knock down the fire, which tore through at least two apartment units.
The blaze was placed under control at 11:45 a.m.

SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn — Police are searching for a person of interest in connection with a subway attack in Brooklyn Tuesday morning that left at least 29 people shot or otherwise injured, shaking a city already unnerved by a sharp rise in crime.
A “mumbling” lone gunman in a reflective vest and a gas mask threw smoke bombs into a subway car in Brooklyn and then began shooting at the height of the morning rush, with the manhunt continuing into the evening as new details emerged in the probe.
None of the injuries were considered life-threatening. Authorities said a magazine jammed in the gun, which possibly saved lives.
Tuesday evening, the authorities identified 62-year-old Frank R. James as a person of interest in the investigation and released a photo at an NYPD briefing led by Commissioner Keechant Sewell.
While the cameras in the station were inoperable, law enforcement officials were able to get an image of the suspect from a bystander’s cell phone video.
The NYPD located a U-Haul van in Kings Highway in Gravesend believed to be connected to the shooting.
There is a $50,000 reward for the apprehension of James, who police say had addresses in Philadelphia and Wisconsin.

A law enforcement source tells Fox News Digital the suspect is wearing an orange construction vest. Sources initially reported the suspect, a Black male, was wearing what was believed to be an MTA uniform. He was also last seen in a gas mask and “carrying a bookbag.”
NYPD Counterterrorism units are responding to the scene, while additional units, including police K9s and heavy weaponry, have been deployed to subway stations around New York City, a high-ranking law enforcement source tells Fox News Digital.
The Nets Game Goes On At Barclays Center But The Mood Is Tense
The mood was tense outside the Barclays Center on Tuesday night, where a basketball game that will help determine whether the Brooklyn Nets advance to the N.B.A. playoffs tipped off hours after the shooting that left subway riders injured just one train stop away.
The shooting took place a few blocks away from the Nets practice facility where players including stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving were preparing for Tuesday nights game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mr. Durant and the teams coach, Steve Nash, told reporters that their thoughts were with everyone injured, and the Nets said in a statement that there would be an increased security presence at the game.
A moment of silence was held inside the arena for victims of the subway shooting. The announcer said the Nets are pledging $50,000 to support victims of the shooting.
Subway platforms at the Atlantic Avenue Barclays Center stop were packed with commuters and Nets fans. As crowds flocked into the arena under a clear blue sky, at least a dozen N.Y.P.D. officers looked on from near the entrance, several of whom had long guns. A private security officer was having a dog sniff attendees bags, a practice that was new on Tuesday.
Still, many attendees said they were only mildly nervous about attending the game, the winner of which will advance to play a seven-game series against the Boston Celtics.
They both took the subway to the game and said they had no fears of being out and about.

Nyc Subway Station Shooting Leaves Multiple Wounded ‘undetonated Devices’ Found
The New York Police Department confirmed that a shooting took place at a Brooklyn subway station Tuesday morning during peak commuting hours for employees headed into Manhattan.
An NYPD spokeswoman confirmed to Fox News Digital that a shooting took place at the 36th St. station in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, but she did not immediately have information on how many people were wounded and whether a suspect had been taken into custody.
FDNY told Fox News that firefighters responded to a call for smoke in the D-N-R lines. Upon arrival, units discover multiple people shot and several undetonated devices at the same location. It continues to be an active scene.

“After the smoke went on, there was a bunch of popping, which I thought at first was firecrackers,” he went on. “I ducked behind a chair to protect myself.”
From a crouching position on the floor, Montano said, “I saw a lot of blood on the floor. Too much blood.”
Montano said the doors opened at 36th Street about three to four minutes later. “As soon as the doors opened, everyone started to pour out and run,” he recalled.
Multiple smoke devices and a bag of commercial-grade fireworks have been recovered, according to a law enforcement official.
Sewell said there are no known explosives on subways and a motive is still unknown.
After initially saying the shooting was not being investigated as an act of terrorism, Sewell later said police are “not ruling anything out.”
Sewell described the suspect as a man wearing a green construction-type vest and a gray-hooded sweatshirt. The suspect has a “heavy build” and is believed to be about 5 feet 5 inches tall, Sewell said.
A man who works in a bodega outside the subway told ABC New York station WABC about 10 to 15 people ran to his store for safety.
“It was horrifying,” he said.
“I saw three or four people with gunshot wounds to their legs. They just fell to floor before the cops came…They just stayed here for a couple of minutes before the coast was clear,” he said. “Everyone was terrified, I was terrified.”
