You are entitled to special provisions if you apply using the Federal Post Card Application. This application will register you and will also serve as your absentee ballot application for 2 federal general election cycles.

What Happens If The Board Of Elections Doesnt Receive My Ballot By Election Day

The Board of Elections can receive ballots up to seven days after Election Day. However, you must postmark by November 2nd for your ballot to be valid.

How Do I Vote

All New Yorkers have three ways to vote in the November 2021 General Election. Choose the best option to make your voice heard:

Early Voting

Vote in-person from Saturday, October 23 to Sunday, October 31st. Your Early Voting site may be different from your Election Day poll site, so be sure to check your poll site location on the poll site locator.

Vote by Mail

All registered voters also have the option to vote by mail .

  • The deadline to request your absentee ballot online or by mail is Monday, October 18, 2021. The deadline to request your ballot in-person is Monday, November 1, 2021.
  • Ballots must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, November 2 andreceived bythe Board of Elections When you receive your ballot, make sure to sign and date the back of your absentee ballot envelope.

When applying for an absentee ballot, you may select Temporary illness or disability, as your reason, which includes the risk of contracting the coronavirus.

Election Day

As always, all registered voters can vote in-person on Tuesday, November 2. We anticipate high turnout this year, so lines may be long at some poll sites. If youre worried about crowds, consider voting early between October 23-October 31st.

When Mailing Your Ballot Keep These Things In Mind:

After you fill out your ballot, put it in whats called the oath envelope . Then, sign the outside of the oath envelope and put it in the mailing envelope.

The mailing envelope will be pre-addressed to your county board of elections office, but you need to use your own stamps.

Campaign Finance Board officials recommend putting on three stamps, just to be safe.

You need to mail your ballot by the day before election day. As long as it arrived postmarked on or before June 21, youre good.

    Can I Vote Absentee In Person

    Sounds strange, but its true! You can vote absentee in person at your boroughs Board of Elections office. Offices are open 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, and on the weekend prior to Election Day. This can be a helpful option if you miss the deadline to request a ballot online or by mail. On Election Day offices are open until 9pm. Find your local Board of Elections office.

    You Can Still Vote In Person If You Request An Absentee Ballot

    Even if you request or cast and return an absentee ballot, you may still go to the polls and vote in person. The Election Law recognizes that plans change. The Board of Elections is required to check the poll book before canvassing any absentee ballot. If the voter comes to the poll site, on Election Day or during early voting and votes in person, the absentee ballot is set aside and not counted.

  • Carefully read and follow the instructions, and fill out all required fields.
  • Sign and date the outside envelope.

    Most New York voters do not need to show ID. First time NY voters should plan on showing ID at the polls. You can show a photo ID issued by any state or the Federal Government or any other non-expired photo ID.     In New York, anyone can vote by mail, but you need to request a ballot.Some counties are mailing absentee applications.

    • be 18 years old by December 31 of the year you register and 18 years old by Election Day to vote

    NEW YORK – Election Day 2020 is officially Tuesday, .
