What Happens If The Board Of Elections Doesnt Receive My Ballot By Election Day
The Board of Elections can receive ballots up to seven days after Election Day. However, you must postmark by November 2nd for your ballot to be valid.

How Do I Vote
All New Yorkers have three ways to vote in the November 2021 General Election. Choose the best option to make your voice heard:
Early Voting
Vote in-person from Saturday, October 23 to Sunday, October 31st. Your Early Voting site may be different from your Election Day poll site, so be sure to check your poll site location on the poll site locator.
Vote by Mail
All registered voters also have the option to vote by mail .
- The deadline to request your absentee ballot online or by mail is Monday, October 18, 2021. The deadline to request your ballot in-person is Monday, November 1, 2021.
- Ballots must be postmarked on or before Tuesday, November 2 andreceived bythe Board of Elections When you receive your ballot, make sure to sign and date the back of your absentee ballot envelope.
When applying for an absentee ballot, you may select Temporary illness or disability, as your reason, which includes the risk of contracting the coronavirus.

Election Day
As always, all registered voters can vote in-person on Tuesday, November 2. We anticipate high turnout this year, so lines may be long at some poll sites. If youre worried about crowds, consider voting early between October 23-October 31st.

When Mailing Your Ballot Keep These Things In Mind:
After you fill out your ballot, put it in whats called the oath envelope . Then, sign the outside of the oath envelope and put it in the mailing envelope.
The mailing envelope will be pre-addressed to your county board of elections office, but you need to use your own stamps.
Campaign Finance Board officials recommend putting on three stamps, just to be safe.
You need to mail your ballot by the day before election day. As long as it arrived postmarked on or before June 21, youre good.
How To Submit Your Absentee Ballot
You may mail your absentee ballot to us using the return envelope provided. We recommend that you mail your ballot back as early as possible. You may instead choose to drop off your absentee ballot at our office in Mineola during normal business hours, or at any early voting polling place or election day polling place in Nassau County during the hours the polls are open.

Can I Vote Absentee In Person
Sounds strange, but its true! You can vote absentee in person at your boroughs Board of Elections office. Offices are open 9am-5pm Monday through Friday, and on the weekend prior to Election Day. This can be a helpful option if you miss the deadline to request a ballot online or by mail. On Election Day offices are open until 9pm. Find your local Board of Elections office.
You Can Still Vote In Person If You Request An Absentee Ballot
Even if you request or cast and return an absentee ballot, you may still go to the polls and vote in person. The Election Law recognizes that plans change. The Board of Elections is required to check the poll book before canvassing any absentee ballot. If the voter comes to the poll site, on Election Day or during early voting and votes in person, the absentee ballot is set aside and not counted.

Id Requirements For Voting In Person
Most New York voters do not need to show ID. First time NY voters should plan on showing ID at the polls. You can show a photo ID issued by any state or the Federal Government or any other non-expired photo ID. If you don’t have a photo ID, you can show a current utility bill, bank statement, paycheck, or official government document that shows your name and current address.

Request An Absentee Ballot
In New York, anyone can vote by mail, but you need to request a ballot.Some counties are mailing absentee applications.
The deadline to apply in person is Nov. 2 and Oct. 27 for all other methods. The U.S. Postal Service recommends voters request a ballot as soon as possible but not later than Oct. 19.
Ballots are mailed startingin mid-September.

On May 4, 2021, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed S830 into law, providing for the automatic restoration of voting rights for individuals convicted of felonies upon completion of their prison sentences. Previously, state law provided for the restoration of voting rights after completion of both prison time and parole.
Voting rights for convicted felons vary from state to state. In the majority of states, convicted felons cannot vote while they are incarcerated but may regain the right to vote upon release from prison or at some point thereafter.

To register in New York you must:
- be a citizen of the United States
- be a resident of New York and the county, city, or village for at least 30 days before Election Day
- be 18 years old by December 31 of the year you register and 18 years old by Election Day to vote
- if you have been convicted of a felony, you must have completed prison and parole

How To Vote By Mail Using An Absentee Ballot In New York

New York is doing something it has never done before: Holding early-voting days in a presidential election.
NEW YORK – Election Day 2020 is officially Tuesday, . However, this year’s general election in New York which of course includes the presidential contest between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden actually takes place over an 11-day span beginning on , which is when early voting begins.
In light of the risks posed by the coronavirus pandemic, New York now allows any registered voter to request an absentee ballot for the upcoming elections. This is de facto mail-in voting.
One of the valid reasons to vote via an absentee ballot rather than in person is “temporary or permanent illness or disability.” The state now recognizes that “temporary illness” includes the risk of contracting or spreading a communicable disease, such as COVID-19.
Note: New York does not have all-mail-in elections. You can vote in person, either during the early voting period or on Election Day, because the polls will be open .

How To Apply For An Absentee Ballot
You may apply for an absentee ballot in any of the following ways:
- By going in-person to your local county board of elections
- By designating another person to deliver your application in-person to your local county board of elections and receive your ballot

If you cannot pick up your ballot, you have the right to designate someone to pick it up for you. Only that person designated on your application may pick up and deliver your ballot.
If you are permanently ill or disabled, you have the right to receive an Absentee Ballot for each subsequent election without further application. Simply file an application with your county board of elections indicating permanent illness or physical disability.
You will then automatically receive an absentee ballot for every election until your registration is canceled.
