Las Vegas in one of our favorite places in the world, along with New York, and Roller Coasters are one of our favorite things to do. So combining all three into a single package sounds like a real winner! We cant think of another example of a rollercoaster that winds its way through an actual city center, with stunning views of the cityscape and skyline as it whizzes past the city streets and landmarks. This Makes the Big Apple Rollercoaster at the New York New York Hotel and Casino Las Vegas a truly unique and captivating experience.
But is the coaster any good? Is it all gimmick and no substance? Or can the coaster cut it as a bonafide coaster experience, and is worth both your time and money to ride the Manhatten Express? What Is The Big Apple Roller Coaster Like
Ok, first, let us just say we are big coaster fans. We have ridden some of Americas best and are not scared of stepping up and riding the baddest rides on the planet. quite the contrary we seek them out. We have ride reviews on coasters from all over the States and have yet to run into anything thats too scary for us! So bear this in mind as we review the Big Apple.
This coaster is BAD. It is one of the worst monstrosities we have ever ridden. We really didnt know how rough a roller coaster can be until we rode the Big Apple and thats AFTER the 2006 upgrade that made the ride smoother, really before that it was unrideable!
The Ride is not bad by design, it has a great layout and the inversions are really fun, there is a classic roll and the Dive loop is a really classy element! The views are also spectacular and we really, really want to love the ride, but we cant.
The Ride Starts off in a replica Subway station and the cars resemble New York Taxi Cabs, after leaving the stationin a cab? you head up a large lift hill that climbs to well over 200ft above the City. The first drop is not the main event and simply takes you back up a smaller hill ready for the big plunge, 144ft along the Las Vegas Strip at up to 67mph.

Located at the New York-New York Hotel & Casino, this famous roller coaster is a favorite amongst tourists worldwide. But the fun doesn’t stop at the coaster! New for 2019: ride Big Apple Coaster with Virtual Reality! The Big Apple Coaster Virtual Reality Experience let’s you chase aliens far above the Las Vegas Strip as you ride the rollercoaster, a heart pounding experinece! Riders must be at least 54″ to ride the roller coaster and 13 and over to ride with virtual reality.
This Ride Takes You For A Loop
The setting is surreal, Las Vegas-style. The faux New York City skyline along Sin Citys famed Strip, with its Statue of Liberty, Chrysler building, and other landmarks, is both enchanting and unsettlingparticularly with the Eiffel Tower looming just across the street. The roller coasters red track snakes through the Manhattan mock-up, and creates quite a scene on Las Vegas Boulevard.
It would have been so much more apropos to build a classic white wood coaster in homage to Coney Islands famed Cyclone . The casinos designers, however, opted for a steel looping hypercoaster.
Instead of doubling the fun, The Big Apples hypercoaster heights and looping inversion elements cancel each other outand cause some pain to boot. Rather than being built for height and speed, the coaster climbs over 200 feet, but only drops 144 feet and reaches a relatively puny top speed of 67 mph. In place of the graceful inversions of most looping coasters, the rides jarring twists and turns are worse than a cab ride during rush hour in midtown Manhattan.
In January 2021, New York New York replaced the trains with new ones from Premier Rides. While we have not had a chance to try The Big Apple with the new trains, the consensus seems to be that the ride is at least a bit smoother. Significantly, instead of the bulky over-the-shoulder restraints, the new Premier trains incorporate more flexible vest-like restraints that generally do not box riders ears.

Defiance Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park looks to be a true gem of a park. Located atop a mountain that requires a gondola ride to get to, this will be one of the highest up coasters in the country. Defiance will be a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter that itself is not extremely tall, but with a vertical lift hill and drops off the hillside, this coaster will definitely provide some incredible views of Colorado.
Ride The Ny Ny Roller Coaster
If you are looking for a quick and inexpensive thrill right on the Las Vegas Strip, make your way over to NY NY and take a few rides on their 203 ft. roller coaster. This 67 mph speedster has drops as deep as 144 ft., and is known for the heartline twist, which simulates a jet fighters barrel roll.
Not only is it a fun roller coaster, its pretty cheap to ride. A single ride costs only $14, and an all day pass can be yours for $30. Nevada locals can ride twice for the price of one, and hotel guests receive varying discounts depending on the hotels current offers.
Bonus? The entrance to the roller coaster is in the middle of the hotels massive arcade, which probably has the worlds largest collection of claw machines. Seriously, theyve got claw machines for pretty much anything you can imagine. Another favorite of ours is the four player Pac Man tournament.

Is The Big Apple Roller Coaster Worth It
Here is where things get a little confusing. As yes, we still think its worth it! Even after a stinker of a review like that! Why? Because this is Vegas and where else can you ride a coaster right along the main boulevard of a City! This is just one of those quintessential Vegas experiences that you need to do.
If this was purely a ride review, then we would call the Big Apple a stinker and ask the offending theme park to remove it. But this is more a Vegas Attraction review and in that context, its a must-ride! We still ride it, even knowing how bad it is!
There are a few caveats though. This ride is insanely rough. People with back problems or any sort of skeletal muscular issues should steer well clear. This thing bangs and crashes like you would not believe, Dont think just because you have ridden other big coasters you will be ok here. it really is a shockingly bad ride.
And again this is a Hyper-Coaster, this means it is big, and fast even by other rollercoaster standards, dont underestimate it, this is one wild ride, nervous riders and younger kids can be susceptible to under-estimate it, thinking its a Vegas fake and real coasters are only in theme parks. This can lead to quite a shock as you plummet from 200ft+ at 67mph! Unless you have your big boy pants on, skip this one!
As far as value goes the ride is definitely best enjoyed via anAttraction Pass.

Guardians Of The Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Epcot
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind has been a long time coming to EPCOT. First announced in 2017, the replacement for the Universe of Energy will finally open in summer 2022. Cosmic Rewind will be one of the worlds longest indoor roller coasters, offering not only forwards moments, but also spinning moments, backwards launches, and many themed moments to put you right into the Guardians of the Galaxy universe. We still dont really know too much about what the ride experience itself will be like, but it is sure to be epic!

How Much Does The New York New York Roller Coaster Cost
As the Coaster is based in a Hotel and not a theme park tickets are on a per-ride basis and are priced at a rather Steep $19 per ride. That is quite a big price tag for just one ride on a roller coaster.
Fortunately, repeat rides are only $8 extra and $30 gets you an all-day pass. There is also a Family Bundle for $86 that gets you 4 rides and a couple of souvenir photos
While $19 is quite an outlay the $30 scream pass does seem like great value but as you will see later this would be a mistake as you are unlikely to ride more than twice.
We are big fans ofAttractions Passesand the Big Apple Coaster is included in quite a few of these, and having the ride basically for free makes it feel really good value.
Pantheon Busch Gardens Williamsburg
Now onto the final SeaWorld/Busch Gardens coaster delayed from 2020. Fans of VelociCoaster at Universals Islands of Adventure should be excited for Pantheon coming to Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Designed by the same manufacturer, Intamin, Pantheon looks to have many similar elements to VelociCoaster, including a giant top hat, a multitude of airtime moments and launches. Being in a park known for its thrill coasters, theres even a chance this could be the superior ride. Granted, it wont have the theming and scenery of VelociCoaster, but I for one am very excited to see how this turns out.

Hot Wheels Roller Coaster Mattel Adventure Park
A brand new theme park is coming to Glendale, Arizona, a state not really known for theme parks. The Mattel Adventure Park will feature branded experiences such as a Hot Wheels roller coaster, a Thomas & Friends indoor theme park and more. The Hot Wheels coaster looks to be a fun coaster somewhat similar to Lightning Run at Kentucky Kingdom, and it will be great to have a new park opening.

Lopez Set For Defence After Roller
Teofimo Lopez will end a career long 13-month layoff when he faces Australian challenger George Kambosos in an undisputed lightweight championship bout that featured an astounding eight date changes.
Besides all the postponements, Lopez’s title defence has included six different proposed locations and numerous legal challenges in a soap opera build up featuring in-fighting between boxers, promoters and lawsuits.
But on Saturday the WBA, IBF and WBO champ Lopez will finally put his 135-pound crown on the line against sizeable underdog Kambosos at New York’s Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden.
“I definitely would’ve loved it to fight more this year and thats what the goal was, to fight two or three times this year, but things happen,” said Lopez. “I got Covid, postponed the fight numerous times.
“I’m here now, it’s fight week and I’m going to make sure that 2022 is my year.”
The undefeated Lopez is fighting for the first time since his breakthrough win over Vasiliy Lomachenko in October 2020 in Las Vegas. He was 23 and in just his 16th fight, but Lopez started quickly against the Ukrainian champ and went on to win by a unanimous decision.
The win elevated Lopez to the rank of undisputed champion but instead of capitalizing on his success, he has endured a lengthy layoff.
The New York-born Lopez represented Honduras at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro but failed to win a medal.
This is just Kambosos’ third fight on US soil.
