Who Has to Pay the Hotel Room Occupancy Tax?The Hotel Room Occupancy Tax must be paid on the occupancy, or the right of occupancy, of a room or rooms in a hotel. A “hotel” includes an apartment, hotel, motel, boardinghouse, bed-and-breakfast, bungalow, or club, whether or not meals are served. The occupant of any room or rooms in a hotel must pay the tax. Hotel operators and remarketers collect the tax from the occupant.
A building is not considered a hotel if rooms are only rented for up to 14 days or are only rented once or twice during any four consecutive tax quarters of a 12-month filing period. Rentals to permanent residents should not be included in the number of rooms counted as hotel room rentals.

Best Places To Stay In New York City For Families With Kids
If youre visiting New York City with the kids, where to stay becomes less about attractions and more about safety. With that said, we highly recommend Central Park, especially the areas around Upper East Side and Upper West Side, which are much quieter.
Any of the more residential areas would also be a consideration, such as Chelsea or Greenwich Village.
Places to avoid would be the loud party places like Meatpacking District and Lower East Side.

The borders of this NYC neighborhood is roughly 14th to 30th St. from 7th Ave. to the Hudson River.
The southern part is walking distance to the incredible food and entertainment choices of Greenwich Village, while central Chelsea is home to the largest number of art galleries in New York having surpassed SoHo years ago.
Fabulous Chelsea Market is a hub of the neighborhood as is the High Line, a converted rail line that now serves as an elevated urban park with views of the river and NYC.
Hotels here are cheaper than Greenwich Village to the south and Midtown to the north so it may be a perfect location for those who want to be in the relative center of Manhattan.

Dont expect the Plaza Hotel, but the prices, especially in high season, are great for the location.
Rooms are modern with amenities like free Wi-Fi, basic cable-TV central heating, air-conditioning in summer, in-room safe, and refrigerator.
Most of the guest rooms are a decent size and have a small table or work area.
If you are okay with shared bathrooms you will definitely save money, and you are sharing with just one other room.
The Guest Room layout has a queen bed and the Junior Guest Room has a queen bed and sofa bed.
Rooms are 250 sq. ft. each, so not huge. But you wont be in the room much with so many great neighborhoods and sights to visit right nearby.

Things To Do In Midtown South Manhattan
Aside from the obvious Empire State Building observation deck, if you stay in this area you will be surrounded by shopping, dining and rooftop bar options.
Some of Manhattans top rated bagel & coffee shops are between Empire State and Penn Station. NoMad is a cool up-and-coming neighborhood laden with bars and high end restaurants.
The Flatiron Building isnt far and Chelsea is within walking distance. Actually, if you dont mind walking and you have time, you could probably walk around most of Midtown using a hotel here as the perfect centralized staging area.
Why Is Central Park One Of The Best Places To Stay In Nyc
This area is where to stay for a relaxing, quiet and calm New York City visit but with fairly easy access to the touristy spots in Midtown and Downtown Manhattan.
It is a very safe area, extremely family friendly and more upmarket than the likes of Times Square. Those who prefer to travel in luxury should look at hotels in Upper East Side.
Visitors who would like to walk or run around Central Park on a morning couldnt ask for a better location. Subway access is good but not the best. However, this is a very walkable part of the city.
It does take longer to reach the top sights in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, plus this is a more expensive area in general to stay and eat for those traveling on a budget to consider.

Restaurants Bars And Nightclubs
Until June 2010, an ESPN Zone was located in the hotel, accessible from street level and from within the casino. It was a sports-themed restaurant operated by Walt Disney Parks and Resorts‘ Disney Regional Entertainment division, with an upstairs arcade room full of sports-themed interactive games such as bowling, basketball, football, boxing, golf, horse racing, and auto racing. On October 10, 2010, the hotel re-opened the facility after an extensive remodeling and dubbed it “Sporting House”, catering to the same sporting crowd. The new facility was staffed and maintained by ARK, the food-and-beverage firm which runs other in-house facilities, including the employee dining room . The Sporting House permanently closed on June 3, 2014, and was successfully subdivided to accommodate Shake Shack and Tom’s Urban which opened in late December 2014.

We stayed at AC Hotel for a night, which was great. It has a rooftop bar and affordable room rate. The Riu Plaza often runs discounted prices but our top pick for Times Square is CitizenM as long as you can get it at a good rate.
