New And Expanded International Routes
As travel recovers, Southwest is gearing up to return to every international market that it temporarily stopped serving during to the pandemic. Though some previously flown routes are not currently slated to return, all international stations will reopen by Nov. 7, the airline said.
In addition to the resumptions youll find the full list of routes below Southwest is also adding five new international routes.
Both Chicago OHare and Kansas City will see Cancun flights, starting on Nov. 7 and Nov. 13, respectively. Both routes represent Southwests first-ever international service from those airports.
OHare service will operate daily, while MCI flights will operate seasonally on Saturdays.
Other notable route additions include a new Saturday-only seasonal flight between Denver and Liberia, Costa Rica , which is poised to go head-to-head with Uniteds existing flight in the Denver market.
Elsewhere, Southwest is adding two new Saturday-only routes to San Juan , from both St. Louis and Buffalo beginning on Nov. 13.

Southwest Airlines is getting pressure from Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to bring the carriers service to Syracuse, N.Y.
Schumer, D-New York, called Southwest CEO Gary Kelly on Wednesday to make the request, the airline and the Senators office said Friday.
Perhaps Schumer is hoping to capitalize on the Dallas-based airlines recent spree of adding new cities to its route maps. Or maybe Sen. Schumer is hoping to make the request while the memory is still fresh of the nearly $8 billion in stimulus grants given to the airline during the last 15 months to help avoid financial disaster due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ive always strived to bring affordable air service to Upstate New York because it can lift our local economies and connect our state with the rest of the world, said a statement from Schumer. Like all of us, airlines have spent the last year buckled down. Now we and they are roaring back, and theres no better way for Southwest to profit from the recovery than by building upon its strong brand Upstate. Starting new flights from Syracuse will position Southwest perfectly for post-pandemic success.
A statement from the Senators office said bringing Southwest to Syracuse would boost competition, availability of low-cost flights, and connectivity for travelers and businesses in Central New York.
However, Southwest doesnt have anything to announce about new service to Syracuse, she said.

Southwest To Add Seasonal Nonstop Flight From Syracuse
Syracuse, N.Y. — Southwest Airlines is adding a third destination to its service from Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
The low-cost carrier announced Wednesday that it will launch seasonal, nonstop service from Syracuse to Tampa, Florida, in the spring. The carrier will operate the weekly, Saturday-only service starting April 30, 2022.
Southwests service to Tampa International Airport will increase Hancocks existing nonstop service to the Tampa area. Frontier has offered seasonal nonstop service to Tampa since 2018. Allegiant has offered nonstop flights to nearby St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport since 2013.
We are of course thrilled to see Southwest Airlines increase their footprint here at SYR, Jason Terreri, executive director of Syracuse Regional Airport Authority, said in a statement. This seasonal service will provide our leisure and business travelers increased options to quickly and affordably make the trip from SYR directly to Tampa in a matter of a few hours.
Southwest entered the Syracuse market last month, offering three nonstop flights a week to Baltimore and seasonal nonstop service to Orlando, Florida.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. The U.S. Senate Majority Leader is pushing for airline service expansion in Syracuse.
On June 4, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer spoke with Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly to urge the airline company to expand its presence in Upstate, New York. Schumer specifically spoke on an expansion to Syracuse Hancock Airport.
According to Schumer, Syracuse is currently the only major airport in the region that Southwest Airlines does not serve.
He claimed that Central and Northern New York residents have been known to drive to Albany, Rochester or Buffalo for Southwest flights.
Schumer stated that this addition could boost competition, availability of low-cost flights and connectivity for travelers and businesses.

Southwest first announced that its adding Bellingham, Washington to its network in March. At the time, the airline said that service was slated to launch in the second half of 2021, and now we have the full details.
Flights will begin on Nov. 7, with routes as follows:

Bellingham is a popular airport for budget-conscious travelers looking to get to Canada. The city sits just south of the U.S. border with Canada and is a relatively short drive to downtown Vancouver one of Canadas most populous cities thats only about 50 miles from the BLI airport.
