NEW YORK The Celtics saw their lead yo-yo between comfortable and dangerous against the Nets, but the end result was the same.
The Celtics pushed the Nets to the brink of elimination with a 109-103 win Saturday at Barclays Center. Bostons up 3-0 on Brooklyn in the first-round series, and no NBA team has ever blown such a commanding lead in the best-of-seven format.
The Nets seemingly had at least a response every time the Celtics went up double-digits for most of the night. But Bostons shot-making stood up to the challenge. There were multiple times the crowd wanted to get into the game and flip momentum, but the Celtics quickly silenced them.
While the Nets hung around for most of the game, the Celtics pulled away in the fourth quarter. Jaylen Brown had a furious rally where he got plenty of buckets and assisted on others, answering the Celtics call to put the ball in his hands.
Jayson Tatum led the way for the Celtics with 39 points, six assists and six steals, while Brown put up another 23 points and five assists. Rob Williams also made his return, playing in 16 minutes. Bruce Brown, again unexpectedly, put up 26 points and eight rebounds for the Nets.

The Brooklyn Nets versus the Boston Celtics may be the best first-round matchup in the NBA Playoffs this year and the first two games of this series in Boston have been pure chaos.
Game 1 ended on a buzzer-beating layup by Jayson Tatum to win the game for the Celtics and in Game 2, the Celtics completed a 24-point turnaround to win 114-107 and take a 2-0 series lead heading into Brooklyn.
The Celtics trailed 65-55 at the half in a game that Brooklyn led the entire first-half and in the third quarter, Boston began to chisel their way back into the game.
Boston tied the game at one point in the third quarter and then in the fourth quarter, the Celtics defense showed up to close out the game. Outscoring the Nets 29-17 in the fourth and not letting either Kevin Durant or Kyrie Irving get off a good look, the Celtics defense propelled them to a massive come from behind victory.
Seven of the eight players that checked into the game for Boston scored at least 10 points and perhaps the biggest and most unexpected contributions came from Payton Pritchard, who scored 10 points on 5-7 shooting off-the-bench.
Brooklyn now has their backs up against the wall heading into Game 3, a game that the Nets desperately need to win in order to keep their hopes alive in this series.

BROOKLYN, NY – The Boston Celtics completed a 4-0 sweep of the Brooklyn Nets in their Eastern Conference first-round series by holding on to a 116-112 victory Monday night in New York.
The Celtics led from the start as Jayson Tatum scored 29 points before fouling out with 2:49 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the Nets trailing by just six points.
In Tatums absence, the Nets cut the deficit to one with 1:28 remaining before Jaylen Brown made a clutch late bucket to restore the Celtics slender lead.
Without their top scorer, Boston relied on its league-leading defense led by Marcus Smart — the 2022 NBA Defensive Player of the Year — to prevent the Nets from scoring a field goal in the last 58 seconds of the series.
Its funny to us because we dont duck and dodge anybody, Smart told the media after the game. We knew what we were going to come in here and do.
The Nets were led by a heroic Kevin Durant — who scored 39 points, including a three-pointer off one leg which had Smart in awe — and Kyrie Irving contributed 20, but it wasnt enough to prevent the brooms being pulled out by the Celtics.
It was the culmination of a disappointing season for the Nets, who had been picked by many as one of the title favorites. Injuries throughout the season to guard Joe Harris and superstar Durant, as well as Irvings extended absence due to his choice not to be vaccinated for Covid-19, hampered their efforts to build momentum.

Nets Turnovers Lead To Easy Celtics Points
Payton Pritchard started the second quarter with seven straight points to stretch the lead to 37-25. The most unlikely of offensive sources, Nic Claxton, stepped up in the second quarter scoring four baskets before the half and sparked a 7-0 run to bring the Nets to with a point.
Turnovers hurt the Nets all night long, but it was never more evident than in the third quarter where Kevin Durant and company turned the ball over eight times and had just eight field goals coming out of the half.
Tatum turned it on in the third quarter after scoring 12 points in the first half. As well as Tatum was playing, Brown was keeping the Nets close despite another slow night for their two stars.

Kevin Durants trade request has intrigued the team that swept the Nets out of the playoffs last season.
The Celtics have engaged in trade talks with the Nets about a possible deal for Durant a two-time NBA champion, two-time Finals MVP, former league MVP and 12-time All-Star that includes a package centered around All-Star forward Jaylen Brown, according to The Athletic. Jayson Tatum is said to be considered off-limits.
The Celtics reportedly offered Brown, guard Derrick White and a draft pick to the Nets for Durant, which was rejected and countered by the Nets. Brooklyn has asked Boston to include Brown, Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, draft picks and potentially one more rotation player in any proposal, a source told The Athletic adding that Boston is less inclined to include Smart along with multiple other player or pick assets in a deal.
Durant, who will turn 34 in September, signed a four-year, $198 million extension with the Nets in last August. Meanwhile, Brown has two years left on his contract with Boston.
Although both teams are engaged in trade talks, no deal is close to being done. The Celtics, though, have tremendous interest in bringing Durant to Boston in pursuit for a championship, the report states.
The Nets are working on a trade for Durant, but talks around the league have slowed down in recent weeks. Brooklyn wants a massive haul in return for a player of Durants caliber.
The Raptors and Heat both remain in the race for Durant.

BOSTON — Brooklyn Nets star forward Kevin Durant endured the worst statistical half of his career during Wednesday’s 114-107 Game 2 loss to the Celtics.
Durant went 0-for-10 from the field in the second half, the most field goal attempts without a make in any half of his career, according to research from ESPN Stats & Information. After finishing 4-of-17 on Wednesday, Durant is a combined 13-for-40 from the field in the series.
“It’s on me to just finish it and figure it out,” he said. “I’m not expecting my teammates or the defense to give me anything. I just got to go out there and play.”

Tatum Drops 27 In Second Half
Browns 26 points wouldnt be enough for the Nets, who saw Irving and Durant held to 16 points a piece.
Irving picked up his fifth foul early in the fourth quarter, and thats when Jaylen Brown took over like he has done so often in this series. He scored seven straight points when it looked like the Nets were building up a little run in the late stages of the game.
Tatums 39 points and Jaylen Browns 23 were enough to hold off the Nets, and improve to 3-0 on the series.
Brooklyn now must do something that no team in NBA history has done, win four straight after losing the first three games of a series.
The Celtics will have a chance for a clean sweep of the Nets on Monday night. Tip off from the Barclays Center is set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
