Dinosaur Safari Returns To The Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo

NEW YORK – The dinosaur safari is returning to the public at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s Bronx Zoo.

The popular attraction has not been at the zoo since 2019.

Zoo officials say it’s an immersive experience with a quarter mile long, walk-through exhibit.

It features 52 life sized animatronic dinosaurs that move and roar.

The dinosaur safari runs through October 30th.

RETURNING IN SPRING 2022

Were backand bigger than ever! During a NEW walk-through experience, youll get up close with 52 life-sized dinosaurs and pterosaurs in the Bronx Zoos Dinosaur Safari. This years safari not only features more animatronic dinosaurs than ever before, but also BIGGER ones.

Want to meet the 110-foot Argentinosaurus, one of the largest animals to ever walk the earth? How about the Quetzalcoatlus, the largest flying animal to ever live? Want to dig up ancient fossils and discover the very latest scientific discoveries about dinosaurs?

While youre meeting prehistoric creatures, you might want to also take some time to visit the dinosaurs who are still with us todaythe birds! The first birds evolved from dinosaurs in the Jurassic period, around 150 million years ago. Along your walk, youll encounter some living dinosaurs in the form of Dalmatian pelicans. Youll learn about the similarities that exist between the birds you know today and the dinosaurs that went extinct 66 million years ago. The Bronx Zoos World of Birds is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2022, and its a great place to see some amazing avians during your visit.

The world-famous Bronx Zoo boasts more than 6,000 animals, from aardvarks to zebras, across 265 acres in the Bronx, NYC. If you visited the last Dinosaur Safari at the Bronx Zoo, take note: The wagon ride has been replaced with a walk-through experience, following a trail through a prehistoric-themed display featuring 52 life-size, animatronic dinosaurs. Visitors can pick up the trail near the Fountain Circleand the precocious sea lionswhile youre there, be sure to check out the ADA-accessible dig site, where kids can dig up ancient fossils and learn how fossils can teach us about what the world was like ages ago.

Along the safari route, visitors spot dinosaurs in various lifelike poses and scenes, some protecting eggs, some foraging for food, and some even hunting prey. A Tarchia peeks through the foliage at eye level, while the long neck of a 60-foot Omeisaurus stretches to the treetops. A baby Kosmoceratops hides between its massive-horned parents. Youll also hear some of them roar and see them move their head, tails, and arms as you walk along.

Know Before You Go To The Bronx Zoos Dinosaur Safari

  • When: The temporary exhibit runs through Sunday, October 30, during normal zoo hours.
  • How much?The Dinosaur Safari is included in your Bronx Zoo Admission ticket. Timed-entry tickets must be purchased online in advance.
  • Where: Find the entrance to the exhibit near the Fountain Circle, just past where the sea lions swim.
  • Plan to arrive early in the daythe popularity of this outdoor attraction means the parking lots fill fast, so we suggest opting for an early reservation.

Planning A Visit To The Bronx Zoo

  • The busiest times at the Zoo are Wednesdays and Summer Weekends
  • Wild Encounters are VIP experiences within the Zoo where you can take photos, feed animals and be escorted by private trainers. Giraffe Connection, Cheetah Connection, Penguin Connection are just some of the Wild Encounter tours available.
  • Some exhibits are only for outdoor/good weather. However, there is still a lot to do in cooler or rainy weather. Please check the Bronx Zoo website or their app for the daily schedule.
  • There are multiple entrances to the Zoo. If you are meeting someone, or trying to get to a popular exhbit, please review the map above in advance to try and find the best entrance and exit for your schedule. The three main entrances are Asia Gate Bronx River Gate and Southern Blvd Gate .
  • The on site food and snacks are typical for any exhibit of this type, but you are also welcome to bring your own picnics and sit at the Dancing Crane Café.
