Where To Stay While Visiting New York

Soho And Tribeca Best Place To Stay For Culture

WHERE TO STAY IN NYC?

SoHo and Tribeca are becoming hot neighborhoods to visit and live in Manhattan. So much so that they are two of the top five most expensive areas for real estate in New York City. That being said, you should stay and visit here while in NYC.

Historically the factory center of Manhattan, these neighborhoods are for architecture buffs. You can explore endless streets of the most stunning cast-iron buildings in the world, with gorgeous pillars, fire escapes, water towers, and cobblestone streets.

As the factories left New York in the 60s and 70s, artists moved in turning them into lofts. Galleries followed, and then shopping, turning the area into a giant shopping mecca.

The Film Forum is also nearby for film buffs to catch a classic movie.

Royal Park Hotel And Hostel

While there really is no such thing as âcheapâ accommodation in NYC, if youâre just after the best budget family hotels in Manhattan, NYC, then the Royal Park Hotel and Hostel is worth considering. Located just 320m from 96 Street Subway Station and 805m from Central Park, the Royal Park Hotel provides affordable lodging-style accommodation in a newly renovated building.

Families are best accommodated in private rooms, which contain two double beds. These rooms have a private bathroom, air conditioning and heating, free WIFI and TV. The rooms are quaint and uniquely furnished, and with the recent renovations, you will think youâre in a more expensive hotel.

Given this is a hostel, it has some great facilities. Facilities include shared use of a refrigerator and microwave, shared guest lounge with seating area, snack and drinks vending machines, and the experience of meeting people from all around the world.

Why We Love it?

The price, when it comes to good family hotels in New York City, itâs hard to find something so cheap yet so clean and comfortable.

Whatâs Not to Love?

This hotel is quite far away from the main attractions around Times Square, however with the subway station close by, for the price, you really canât go wrong.

Summary

Midtown West: Best Area To Stay In New York For First

This area makes up Times Square, the Broadway Theater District, and all the way west to the Hudson River between 30th Street and Columbus Circle at 59th Street. First-time visitors will be in walking distance to the main sights in Midtown East and have plenty of transportation options. There are also familiar restaurants in Times Square but I strongly encourage NYC first-timers to skip these tourist traps and head a bit further west to 9th Avenue for restaurants and bars more typical of what youd find in New York.

Best Area To Stay New York Or New Jersey When Visiting Nyc

We are a family of 6 with 2 young kids . We are visiting New York last week of April for 3 days mainly in Manhattan area. Which is best to stay, New Jersey or other areas in NY. Our budget is 100 to 200 USD per night and we are ok to stay outside of Manhattan which is accessible to public transport. Thanks

Long Island City, Queens, a short subway ride from Manhattan.

The hotel experts can better advise if you also specify 1) travel dates 2) arrival airport and 3) room/bed configuration needed.

Any location in NJ will involve additional public transit time and costs. Some places that appear close “as the crow flies” can have inconvenient and expensive commutes.

How many rooms do you need? Is $200 per night per room?

The savings of staying in NJ will soon be diminished when you have to pay the transportation costs in and out of the city, plus the time waiting. The only option worth entertaining would be Jersey City, if you’re talking about NJ, if you’re near the PATH.

Transportation for 6 people to and fro NJ would eat up any savings. For 3 days, stay in Manhattan or LIC but for 6 people a budget of $200 will be tight. $100 seems impossible.

I’m sorry – but you have 2 problems:

There are very few hotels that can accommodate 6 people in one room/suite in NYC

Why Is Central Park One Of The Best Places To Stay In Nyc

This area is where to stay for a relaxing, quiet and calm New York City visit but with fairly easy access to the touristy spots in Midtown and Downtown Manhattan.

It is a very safe area, extremely family friendly and more upmarket than the likes of Times Square. Those who prefer to travel in luxury should look at hotels in Upper East Side.

Visitors who would like to walk or run around Central Park on a morning couldnt ask for a better location. Subway access is good but not the best. However, this is a very walkable part of the city.

It does take longer to reach the top sights in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, plus this is a more expensive area in general to stay and eat for those traveling on a budget to consider.

Public Transit In New York Is Great Including The Subway

HOW TO VISIT NEW YORK CITY ON A BUDGET | New York Travel Guide

Dont be afraid of the subway in NY besides the handrails . Im not really sure where the stigma of the subway comes from, but I promise you: Ive never met a mole person . The week unlimited subway pass is worth it if youll be taking the train a lot over 4-5 days.

Subway etiquette includes NOT making eye contact. Like, youre allowed to look around ~subtly, but dont be that creep who stares directly at someone the whole time. Its weird and creepy. Its only okay if someone has a kitten that theyre carrying on the subway. In that case, feel free to go crazy over it.

Express v. Local Subway Trains . Dont get on the express subway or bus unless youre sure that its going to stop off where you want it to. The regular train will stop at the majority of the stops while the express trains will skip on average half the stops. Dont get on the local train because it will take twice the time.

You need to know which entrance you need for the subway via the direction that youre headed. Check before you pay to get into the subway station as you might need to exit to get to the other side.

East Bound/West Bound and Uptown / Downtown can be a bit confusing if the endpoint is in a different borough, but a good subway map should help you figure out the endpoint. If youre in Manhattan, imagine a grid with yourself looking up and to the right .

Union Square Flatiron District & Gramercy Park

Most travellers will immediately recognise the iconic Flatiron Building, built on Fifth Avenue in 1902. Away from the hustle and bustle of Times Square, the Flatiron District and nearby Gramercy Park make for a great base in New York. Youll find no shortage of fantastic restaurants, shopping and great bars, picture-perfect brownstones and plenty of historic buildings to photograph. There are amazing farmers markets to explore and a busy street life to immerse yourself in too.

Close to Union Square, which is also a good base point, youll find it easy to get around on the subway, which is important as these spots arent really close to any of the major museums or tourist sites youll want to see. In terms of prices, youre not going to find these areas particularly budget-friendly, offering more of your mid-range to high-end accommodation options. That said, they really do offer a great base for travellers.

Brooklyn Best Place To Stay In New York Outside Manhattan

As the most populous borough of New York City, Brooklyn has only recently gotten into the tourism industry thanks to the development of districts such as Williamsburg and Greenpoint, which have become extremely trendy hotspots.

Thanks to this transformation, new tourism attractions and hotels have been created for the convenience of visitors. Even though Brooklyn should by all means be more affordable than Manhattan, which is just across the river taking the pedestrian bridge, the trendy status of the borough can make it a bit pricey.

Here are some hotels you may want to evaluate when staying in Brooklyn:

Upscale:The William Vale is an amazing work of architecture located in Williamsburg. Ever since it was completed a few years ago, it has been attracting celebrity guests thanks to luxury amenities such as balconies, floor-to-ceiling windows, a swimming pool, and rainfall showers. The three restaurants in this hotel are managed by award-winning chefs.

Mid-Range:Fairfield Inn and Suites by Marriott New York Brooklyn offers everything you should expect from a Marriott property at very reasonable prices and with a Brooklyn flair. Highly recommended to couples and families.

Budget: The International Students Residences is a hostel that has been remodeled to match the architecture and style of Williamsburg. Getting to Times Square from this hostel takes about 20 minutes.

Youll understand why people fall head over heels for this dirty city , you need to experience the uniqueness that defines New York: the many different groups that coexist here side by side with their own distinct bits that they contribute to New Yorks culture.
