Where To Stay In New York For A Weekend

Where To Stay In New York City: A Neighborhood Guide For First Time Visitors

As COVID cases climb, health officials warn New Yorkers to stay safe over holiday weekend

Wondering where to stay in New York City? Ive visited so many times over the years , so I thought Id write down a guide!

I absolutely love visiting New York City. Im not sure I would ever really enjoy living here. Dealing with the MTA on a daily basis, crying as I pay 2x as much for a meal as I would in PA, and the entire winter season would, Im sure, sour me pretty quickly. However, I definitely love popping up for a weekend or even a full week if I can manage!

Whenever Im home near Philly, I often try to pop up to NYC no matter the season it seems! Ive even successfully driven from Brooklyn up through Manhattan to go to Rhode Island during rush hour and during the Rockefeller Christmas tree lighting. It was very poor planning on my part, but I made it!

Anyway, with all that said, here are my tips on where to stay in New York City!

Lunch: Grand Central Station

Once youre ready to grab a bite to eat, head downstairs to the dining concourse for some culinary excitement. Since 1913 the renowned Oyster Bar has had only one specialty serving the freshest seafood in New York, so seafood lovers prepare to be amazed. Another great option is to indulge in a tasty Nordic dish at The Great Northern Food Hall. Next, its time to spread your cultural wings and experience some of the greatest museums in the world.

Air-conditioned rooms feature seating areas, Smart TVs and large built-in wardrobes. Penhaligon’s toiletries and bathrobes are provided in the luxurious bathrooms. Some rooms offer a balcony. How To Get To And From The Airport

There are three airports in the New York City area. If youre flying internationally, youll land in either either JFK or Newark Airport.

From JFK, the AirTrain runs to Jamaica Station, where you can connect with the subway to Manhattan and Howard Beach, to connect with the subway to Brooklyn. The fee each way is $7.75, payable only by Metrocard. Alternatively, book a private transfer with door-to-door service.

From Newark, the AirTrain serves the New York Penn Station, where you can change to a subway. The journey from Newark to the city is about 30 minutes and also costs $7.75. Or book a private transfer here.

LaGuardia Airport is the closest airport to Manhattan but it doesnt have any rail service. From LaGuardia, take the Golden Touch Bus which has 3 dropoff locations in Manhattan: Grand Central Station, Port Authority Bus Terminal and Times Square. Alternatively, book an airport shuttle for $38 that provides door-to-door service.

Top Sights To See In New Your Citys Museum Mile

Central Park is the lungs of New York City. I shudder to imagine what the city would be without it. Established in 1858 on 778 acres of city land, the park was designed by architect Frederick Law Olmstead and landscape architect Calvert Vaux who had won a competition to design a city greenspace.

The park is an oasis of greenery in the spring and summer, a kaleidoscope of blazing colors in the fall and a winter wonderland. Among the many attractions are the Central Park Zoo , a carousel, skating rink, the Boat House, a restaurant with a lake to go rowing on, a theater where they put on Shakespeare plays for free in the summer, an open-air concert venue, wide open meadows and densely forested Rambles, musicians, performers, friendly squirrels, racoonsand thats just scratching the surface. Get yourself a map and wander to your hearts delight.

For a magical New York experience, locate the Delacorte clock right outside the Central Park Zoo. The clock features a collection of brass animal statues playing instruments rotating around the clock every half hour and hour. At those times two brass monkeys hammer on a bell and the animal statues begin to turn and rotate around the clock while a soundtrack of nursery rhymes plays. On a clear day the effect is magical. Both kids and adults are enchanted.

Starting from 84th Street and working your way north the museums on Museum Mile are:

The Guggenheim. Contemporary art in an architecturally unique venue.

Where To Stay In New York City For A Weekend Trip

On your New York weekend trip, being as close to Times Square without actually immersing yourself in the hustle and bustle, the noisy heart of the city is a great place to start looking. Ive researched hundreds of places to stay in NYC taking into consideration price, location, and other important things. And these are my top picks, having stayed at some of them and having had absolutely incredible stays.

New York City hotels have a reputation for being very expensive, making it ideal if you have hotel points to redeem them for a reward stay. If you have credit card rewards, Hyatt is a Chase transfer partner with solid redemptions. You can earn IHG points on your credit card and then redeem the full amount of points for a free night.

If youre not into collecting hotel points, the hotels below offer the best value for money. You should also remember that value is relative in NYC and could mean value in terms of location and amenities.

414 Hotelis located in Hells Kitchen, Midtown West and comprised of two historical townhouses separated by a leafy courtyard. This mid-range boutique hotel offers quaint tree-lined street views, complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi, as well as an iPod docking station, mainly for those looking for a homey stay and a bit different from the major hotel chains.

10 Things You Should Do In NEW YORK CITY

One of the toughest things about planning a trip to New York is deciding where to stay. Its a massive city comprised of five different boroughs.

For just a weekend in New York, youll definitely want to stay in Manhattan. Where you decide to stay there depends on a lot of factors, namely your budget and interests.

If you want to be near Central Park and the museums, for example, you can look for a place in the Upper East or Upper West Side.

Those who prefer a more central location near landmarks like Times Square can look to Midtown. Want a more hip vibe? Check out SoHo or the Lower East Side.

The great news about NYC is that no matter where you stay, you can get anywhere in the city on the subway. This itinerary moves around Manhattan quite a bit anyway, so it really doesnt matter all that much where your accommodation is.

It can be tough finding accommodation in Manhattan that doesnt break the bank, thats for sure. This definitely isnt the cheapest place for a weekend getaway!

East Village Where To Stay In New York For Nightlife

East Village is one of the most vivid and energetic areas in the entire New York and its my recommendation for people interested in nightlife and exploring the best pubs and bars!

The East Village is a pretty unique and special area, as it has an interesting mix of old and new, modern and old-school, which can be seen everywhere from the streets to the buildings and the overall vibe. There are also plenty of rooftop bars and late-night clubs here, so you can rest assured that you can never get bored here, even if you try!

This A Weekend Away post introduces you all to our 3 day long weekend itinerary to New York City! Since I often go to NYC to visit family, Ive gotten chance to explore many parts of the city and Im sharing it within this guide of sights to see and places to eat all in only 3 days. Weve also included some of the best places to stay in New York City!

First things first, I LOVE NEW YORK. I was born there and sometimes I wish I was raised there. Not that being a California girl is a bad thing, its just very different from being a New Yorker.

Whoever is born in New York is ill-equipped to deal with any other city: all other cities seem, at best, a mistake, and, at worst, a fraud. No other city is so spitefully incoherent. James Baldwin

Ive always loved big cities, but New York is the one place that makes me feel bright-eyed and alive! The fast pace of the city drives my impatient soul and the diverse food makes my tummy happy.

Take In The Flatiron Building

Next up on our 3-day itinerary for New York City is to visit the Flatiron building. Located on Fifth Avenue at the end of Madison Square, this is one of my favorite spots in the whole of Manhattan. Unfortunately, you cant get inside of Flatiron building, but its worth taking a few snaps of it because the architecture is truly amazing.

Pro Tip: Walk just past Madison Square Park in the opposite direction to get the entire wedge-shaped building in frame.

The Remote Retreat: The Adirondacks

Explore the Most of New York City During a Weekend Stay

Really want to get away from it alllike, no cell service away? Enter the Adirondacks.

The Adirondacks is a vast region, sprawling over 6 million acres. Lake George, with its iconic Victorian hotel, The Sagamore, is perhaps the best known among well-heeled travelers. It’s on its own 70-acre island, and perfect for adults and children alike: while the parents play golf, the kids can take a banana boat ride across the lake. History geeks will be fascinated by the propertys past: it was once the crown jewel of what was known as Millionaire’s Row: a stretch of stone mansions built on Lake Shore Drive, on the south side of Lake George.

Yet if you’re seeking solace in the Adirondack wilderness, all you really need is the ability to hole up in a tiny cabin in the woods, build a campfire, and reconnect with nature. For that, Airbnb has a number of dreamy cabins. May we recommend this cottage perched right upon a private lake, this grand stone castle with Lake George views, this classic lodge with a pool, fire pit, and covered porch, or perhaps this charming log cabin tucked away from it all?

As for activities, hiking is a must. Helpfully, the Adirondacks’tourism website lists hike by area, ability level , season, and even proximity to a waterfall. Just make sure to keep your social distance from others on the trail.

Best Homestay In New York Bed

This comfortable private room has its own entrance and two huge windows that let in plenty of light! This warm and characterful homestay is packed with vintage decor, giving an intimate feel. You can choose between preparing a meal in the kitchen or making food with the microwave and mini-fridge in your room. Look out for the cats in the communal areas!

Get The Shot In Dumbo

Dumbo neighborhood is experiencing a revitalization. Thanks to Brooklyn Bridge Park, which runs over 2 km along the East River waterfront, there are plenty of photo opportunities. While the neighborhood is bounded by Brooklyn Bridge Park to the north, the Brooklyn Bridge to the west, Brooklyn Heights to the south and Vinegar Hill to the east, youll find Dumbo to be one of the prettiest of the outer boroughs. From rock climbing to roller skating to boating to kayaking, there are tons of things to do by Brooklyn Bridge Park.

It was definitely a highlight to stroll through the area, popping in and out of little shops and watching people go by. I thought about eating at one of the famous Dumbo pizzerias Julianas or Grimaldis but the lines were too long to wait. Instead, I had a super delicious dinner at Cecconis, while enjoying waterfront views of the Manhattan skyline. Dont miss the burrata appetizer!

Queens John F Kennedy Airport

Lets just get this option out of the way shall we? Both of NYCs major airports, La Guardia and JFK, are in Queens. You can get in between them via Grand Central Parkway in about 30 minutes with traffic.

There are very few reasons Id imagine anyone visiting NYC would want to stay near the airports. However, I found myself thinking I shouldve done this when I booked a midnight flight from JFK Norway in January. Let me tell you getting from midtown Manhattan to JFK in January is not my idea of a good time. If I were to do it again, Id probably stay over night near the airport because theres the very cool lookingTWA Hotel thats designed to look its an airport from the sixties!

Top Tips For Navigating New York City

Weekend in NYC My Best Friend Visiting NEW YORK For The First Time

With the exception of Broadway, Manhattans systematic grid of numbered streets and avenues, imposed in 1811 is like a giant tic-tac-toe board. If its your first time visiting New York, keep in mind that streets run horizontally from east to west, while avenues run vertically from north to south. 5th Avenue is a major thoroughfare in the borough, which splits the east side from the west side.

The New York City subway extends throughout Manhattan and into the other New York boroughs. No matter what your destination, chances are theres a subway line heading in that direction.

Here are the subway travel tips you need to know to navigate it like a pro:
