What To See Florida To New York Road Trip

Florida To New York Roadtrip

Florida to New York Road-trip VLOG!

I’m looking at taking a solo road trip from Florida to New York at the end of this year and am looking for some suggestions on places on stopping at and time that it would take to accomplish this. I’ll be spending 2 weeks in Los Angeles prior to this as part of a study unit with my university, and will be doing the whole Disney Land and Universal Studios thing there . I’m then looking at flying to Florida around the 24th November to start a road trip that goes for around 2/3 weeks. Now my original thought was to fly straight to Orlando and do Disney and Universal studios and the other various things there for maybe 4 days and then head off on my road trip, but was wondering if it was worth it to fly straight to Miami, start the road trip there and drive up to Orlando and stay a few days then, or should I just skip Miami?

After Orlando I was looking at stopping at either St Augustine or Savannah then up to Charlston or myrtle beach and on to Jacksonville in North Carolina, where I have a friend and will be staying with him for about 4 days , before heading up to Washington DC, where I’ve read its more suitable to ditch the car and take the train from there to New York.

Also, any tips would be great!

Thanks in Advance 🙂

Driving From New York To Florida In One Day

: Last January, my aunt and I drove from New York to Orlando in one day. We left Long Island at 4am and arrive at her condo in Southeast Orlando at 11:45PM. The trip total is 1,127 miles and google maps puts the travel time at 16 hours, 11 minutes.

Leaving Long Island at 4am was great in that we got out of the New York area way before any traffic began to build. But, when we hit the Baltimore/DC area, we did hit all their rush hour traffic . This was a weekday, and really unavoidable.

The MD/DC traffic was the only traffic we hit the entire way. The rest of the drive was smooth sailing, just long. We tried to minimize the stops, but we were driving in a small Jeep SUV with a 12-gallon gas tank, so we stopped for gas way more than I would have though.

Otherwise, we took about a 45 minute Cracker Barrel lunch break in southern North Carolina, with the rest of the food and snack stops being just fast food. We did have two drivers, and no kids with us, so most of the drive was pretty painless.

The worst part was the last three hours. After a long day of driving, we crossed into Florida around 8PM. I was so excited we were finally in FLORIDA! But if you are heading to Orlando, its still another THREE HOURS to Orlando! This was a mental drain after a long day, but we made it to Orlando safe and sound right before midnight!

Home To The Theme Parks

Orlando faced a fundamental change in the 1960s when Walt Disney revealed his plans to create a Walt Disney World in Orlando. The location of the city in central Florida was perfect for a huge theme park. The weather is good for outdoor activities more or less all year round. And the inland location makes it less exposed to hurricanes than coastal regions.

Disney World is certainly not the only major theme park option when you visit Orlando on the NYC to Miami road trip. After the opening of Walt Disney World in 1971 more theme parks have arrived. Disney World, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure and Sea World and more could keep you busy for weeks if not months. Orlando is the wet dream for theme park enthusiasts.

Haines Falls New York

The Catskills are so nice that they made the list twice. With majestic waterfalls, unique towns, and beautiful scenery, the region offers incredible outdoor experiences. Haines Falls, in the Great Northern Catskills, is home to the highest cascading waterfall in New York state, Kaaterskill Falls. The trail, which is open year-round, is about a mile and a half round-trip. Road trippers should also head to Round Top to see Glen Falls, which doubles as a popular swimming hole during the warmer months.

Day 8 Till 1: Blue Ridge Parkway

After the beautiful Shenandoah National Park we entered the Blue Ridge Parkway. And well get ready for days of endless, perfect views and to connect with nature again. The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of our favorite routes to take and is 469 miles long. We still think about these days with fond memories, and would love to drive it again during the fall foliage season.

We stopped at too many overlooks to name them all. Its tempting to stop at each of them since the views are so mesmerizing. On those days we did a few hikes, suited to do with a 5 year old. We went off the Blue Ridge Parkway a few times each day to visit some attractions that were nearby. Places we stopped at are Natural Bridge State Park, The Blowing Rock, Grandfather Mountain and Mount Mitchell State Park. All offer splendid views on the Blue Ridge Mountains and good hiking opportunities. Dont miss watching the sunset above the mountains at an overlook, at least one day when driving the parkway.

Wander Savannahs Historic District

Its with all right that Savannah has won its reputation as a very beautiful city. The historic downtown area really is something special. The architecture from the 18th and 19th centuries is very well accompanied by greenery. The roads and avenues are more often than not lined by characteristic trees.

Probably more than any other tree type the live oak is closely associated with Savannah. The trees planted out in the streets and squares provide necessary shade in the summer and picturesqueness all year round. The growing Spanish moss adds to the beauty in the historic city.

Our Road Trip Itinerary From Rochester Ny To Orlando Fl

Day 1: We decided to leave Tuesday afternoon and start our drive down to Orlando, Florida. We packed the car with sub sandwiches for dinner and made the 5 hour drive to Chambersburg, PA. Around 8:45pm we checked in to the Springhill Suites for the night.

Day 2: Day 2 was going to be our longest driving day but I was really excited for our stop at Driftwood Beach in Georgia. We stayed in Brunswick, GA, ate dinner at Willie Jewels BBQ, and drove to Jekyll Island.

Jekyll Island is a little under an hour drive and the last thing we wanted to do was get back in the car but I had heard so many amazing things about Driftwood Beach and we were so close.

We had to make a point to visit.

I am so happy we did because walking about the beach and watching the sunset was a great way to end the day. After our visit we headed to the Fairfield Inn for the night.

Day 3: We slept in until 7:00am and then started our drive to Orlando, FL. We wanted to stop at Buc-ees and arrive at Universal for lunch.

Our first stop was Buc-ees. Buc-ees is a gas stations/food stop but if you have visited one you know it is so much more.

They have food options, merchandise, and very clean bathrooms making it a great stop during a road trip.

I suggest trying the Beaver Nuggets and give yourself a bit of time to explore the store. There are a lot of fun options here.

We were very happy to arrive at our hotel. We stayed at the Hampton Inn. It was fine for the night but it was in need of an update.

Driving From Florida To New York

It was time to get out of New York. It was cold. We rented ...

Im planning on driving from Florida to New York May 1st are there any restrictions? Are the rest places open

No way to know until then. Many states have restrictions and they can change at any time.

You can drive highways and gas stations are open.

Unsure on what hotels are open

Two weeks from now things could change

The rest area situation likely varies by state so I recommend either posting in the forum of the state you are curious about or just do a Google search.

Safe travels!

Interstate Welcome/Visitor Centers may be opened.

E Savannah Georgia More History And Southern Charm On The Atlantic Coast Itinerary

  • Driving distance: 107 mi / 172 km
  • Driving time: 2 h

Savannah is another historic place to explore on the Atlantic Coast road trip itinerary. The Georgia city was established in the year 1733 and is located on Savannah River, upriver from the Atlantic Ocean. Savannah is often named as one of the most picturesque cities in America.

But times have not always been so great in Savannah. During the Civil War the Union General William Tecumseh Sherman entered the city after having burned Atlanta and many other cities down on his march to the Atlantic Ocean. Luckily, Sherman was too impressed by Savannah to burn the city down. So instead Sherman offered Savannah as a Christmas gift to President Abraham Lincoln.

Spectacular Nature In Everglades

From Miami the awe-inspiring wetland Everglades is easily accessible. So to mix up city life you can go out there on a day trip and explore the spectacular nature in the diverse Everglades ecosystem.

The environment in Everglades National Park is truly unique. Its wild environment represents Floridas traditional and untamed side. The alligators that call Everglades their home are Florida symbols just like the sunshine, beaches and palm trees. A trip to Everglades and the alligators is the perfect way to finish off the New York to Florida road trip.

Upgrade Everglades: For a more complete Everglades experience than just a day trip you can make the longer drive to Everglades City. The small city sits right where the huge wetland begins on the western end of Everglades National Park. There you can even stay at Everglades accommodation with waterfront view.

Additional stops: Its popular to extend the New York to Miami road trip and make it a New York to Key West road trip. Just continue south on the Miami to Key West road trip to make the beautiful drive to the Southernmost Point and endless summer in Key West.
