What Are The Quarantine Rules For New York

How Will The States Enforce These Travel Restrictions

NYC Cracks Down On Drivers To Enforce Mandatory Quarantine Rules

Travelers coming into New York by air, bus, train, or car are required to fill out a Traveler Health Form prior to arrival to ensure theyre following the states quarantine protocols. Travelers must list their contact information and the address of where they plan to quarantine.

If you drive into New Jersey along one of its major highways , you may see a sign that advises you to call 511 for quarantine updates.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy said his state wouldnt set up checkpoints along the states borders but that the Department of Health would pursue cases of noncompliance if it became aware of them, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Unvaccinated arrivals are also asked to complete an out-of-state traveler registration form.

In Connecticut, quarantine and testing is no longer mandated. Instead, the state is asking travelers to adhere to CDC recommendations.

New York State Issues Guidance On Covid

The New York State Department of Labor recently issued guidance on COVID-19 Quarantine Leave with respect to leave for additional quarantine orders, leave in absence of a quarantine order, and limits on leave due to quarantine orders.

As detailed in our , the state enacted legislation in March 2020 that provides protections and benefits to New York employees who are subject to a mandatory or precautionary order of quarantine or isolation related to COVID-19. Those benefits include job protection and paid or unpaid leave entitlements, depending on the size and income of the employer.

The most significant aspects of the guidance are as follows:

  • If an employer requires an employee to quarantine due to exposure or potential exposure when that employee is not otherwise provided with an order to quarantine or isolate, then the employer must pay that employee his or her regular wages until the employer allows the employee to return to work or until the employee receives an order to quarantine or isolate, at which point the employee will be eligible for quarantine leave.
  • The facts, laws, and regulations regarding COVID-19 are developing rapidly. Since the date of publication, there may be new or additional information not referenced in this advisory. Please consult with your legal counsel for guidance.

    How To Get Vaccinated

Covid-19 vaccines are available in NYC to all US residents who are 12 and older, including domestic visitors to the five boroughs. Those who are ages 12 through 17 are only eligible for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, which is a two-dose regimen with at least 21 days between shots.

There are many ways to get vaccinated:

    • New York City offers this comprehensive vaccine-finder tool, updated on a rolling basis, which includes links to local vaccination centers and pharmacies.
    • You may call 877-VAX-4NYC to schedule an appointment and for more information.
    • A number of sites across the five boroughs are now offering walk-up appointments. You can see these here.
    • New York State operates vaccination centers across the City, including those at Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens and Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. Book appointments here.
    • See other appointments nationwide with the CDCs vaccine-finder tool.

To allow visitors access to the vaccine, Mayor de Blasio announced that the City would be operating pop-up vaccination hubs in areas around the five boroughs, including Times Square, Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park and various transit stops locations may change from week to week. Less Live Instruction For Quarantined Students

It could also make instruction more difficult when students are sent home. The citys policy calls for elementary school students to receive live remote instruction when an entire class is quarantined. The new quarantine policy makes it more likely, however, that only some students are sent home.

In those cases, and in middle and high schools, students are supposed to receive support from teachers in the form of office hours, where they can log on to ask questions or for more intensive help, like small-group instruction. Office hours might be difficult for younger students to navigate, and fewer elementary schoolers may end up receiving synchronous instruction while theyre quarantined.

Well continue to provide alternative instruction for any kids who need to go home, de Blasio said.

Schools Chancellor Meisha Porter emphasized that more students will be able to continue to learn in classrooms under the new policy.

It is so important that our school communities remain whole, when possible, she said. Allowing vaccinated students to stay in school allows for the continuity of in-person instruction.

The new policies come on the heels of news that the Pfizer vaccine is effective for children ages 5 to 11. De Blasio said he expects huge numbers of parents to seek the shots for their children, and he called on health regulators to quickly approve the vaccines for that age group.

Two US states order tough Ebola quarantine rules

BUFFALO, N.Y. Starting today, April 1, New York State is easing many of its domestic travel restrictions, including the quarantine requirement.

Previously travelers had to fill out the domestic traveler form and quarantine for two weeks after entering the state. Now, travelers are only required to fill out that health form.

Quarantine after domestic travel is still recommended as a precaution. In March, the governor said that this change is part of the state’s “transition to a new normal in a post-pandemic world.”

This opens up travel domestically but does not change the rules on mandatory quarantine for those who travel internationally. This only applies to travel within the U.S.

The state also says that if you travel, no matter where you are going in the U.S., you should still monitor for symptoms through 14 days after your last date of travel, continue to follow COVID-19 precautions like handwashing and masking even if you are vaccinated.

As always, anyone experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, including after domestic travel, should isolate and seek the guidance of public health officials or their doctor.
