The turmoil we had to endure from a funeral home expected to assist our grieving family at our most vulnerable is something I do not wish on anyone. And beware of Dottie and Yesenia. Their rudeness is unparalleled. Even though my siblings made pre-arrangements for our father 3 years before his death, they chose during a health pandemic to try to price gouge us on everything, from the casket to disinfection. They tried to say that cedar caskets were a “new health regulation” for those who passed away from COVID but once I informed them that I checked with the state Bureau of Funeral Directors and was told, via email, that no health regulation existed, they then said it was their own regulation. When I stated that our contract should be honored, their funeral director said “if I didn’t like it, they would refund your money and you can find another funeral home.” I agreed and then was told I wouldn’t get the refund for 2 weeks. It wasn’t until local politicians and the State got involved that a check was produced in 48 hours. Then it took more than a week to coordinate a time someone would be on site to retrieve it. Look elsewhere if you care about your deceased loved ones.

The distinctive retail strip on Union Port Road in Parkchester began humbly enough. In 1942, Park Abbey Funeral Chapel was built to serve the thousands of Irish immigrants moving nearby.
“I call it funeral plaza,” said Izzie Mendez, a local resident. “You can look west or east across the square and all you’ll see is funeral homes.”
Attracted by easy access to local transportation — the Bruckner Expressway is minutes away and the No. 6 subway line rumbles by overhead — and favorable zoning laws that permit larger parking areas, the four parlors have become fixtures in the community.
“People like having us here so close,” said Debbie Smith, Park Abbey’s funeral director. “It’s like having a couple of supermarkets together. They can shop for prices. Customers go running across the street from one to another.”
Undertakers often point misdirected mourners to the parlor that offer the services they seek. There is, they say, enough business for all.
“When it comes to death, people seem to like to get to their own ethnic funeral parlors,” said Joe Geico, Garlick’s funeral director. “It’s like the comfortable feeling you get when you go to your neighborhood butcher or grocer.”

My father passed away 5 years ago and we viewed him at Ortiz on Westchester Ave under the 6train and from the beginning of the services till the time we got to the cemetery there where no problems and now 5 years later my mother is about to pass on and I pray that the same people I dealt with are still there to help make this transition go as well as when my father passed away ?

They also operate the funeral home named Parkchester funeral home across the street. After signing the contract they will assign unsuspecting customers a dirty,dreary,dilapidated chapel in that funeral home.The 2 females who are representing the establishment are liars lacking customer etiquette.
