New York State Programs
New York State Tuition Assistance Program
Application for TAP is made by completing the FAFSA and listing Mercy College’s Federal Aid Number in the first slot. Applicants must complete an Electronic TAP Application when they sign the FAFSA using their Federal PIN number. HESC will not process a TAP award without the signed Application. Awards range up to $5,165 and are based on the family’s New York State net taxable income. A student must be registered for at least 12 credits for the 16-week semester or 12 credits at the beginning of Term B for both the two 8-week terms . Any student withdrawing from course work may be ineligible to receive subsequent award.
Students who matriculate for a bachelor or an associate degree must meet state determined academic progress standards.
New York State Higher Education Opportunity Program
Admission into HEOP is determined by the College Opportunity Program office and is for incoming students only. Students in this program must be academically and economically disadvantaged. They may receive supplemental financial assistance from HEOP. Financial aid is calculated on an individual basis and is provided to help students cover the cost of books, supplies, travel, maintenance, tuition, etc. Financial aid packages of HEOP students will also include assistance from various other state and federal programs so that the student’s need is met. Application for HEOP is made through the College Opportunity Program office.

There are several types of New York state scholarships and awards administered by Higher Education Services Corporation and the New York State Education Department:
New York state scholarships, such as the World Trade Center Scholarship, must also be certified each semester.
Once certified, New York state scholarships will disburse around the same time as other New York state aid, typically around the 6th week of classes. If you are owed a refund, you’ll receive an email from Student Accounts indicating that your New York state scholarship funds have been received and your refund is available.
