Tolls From Niagara Falls Ny To New York Ny
Hi All,
We are going to driving our rental minivan from Niagara Falls NY to New York City NY this summer. Can you please let me know how much toll can I expect to pay on the fastest route? Google shows the fastest route as using I-90E, I-81S, I-380S, I-80E and I-280E.
Also, the rental car has an option to avail of a toll pass device. They said it is something like you dont have to wait to pay the tolls on your way, but just pay it all at once to rental agency. It is like an additional $8. Has anyone used something like that? Would it be useful?
Thank you.

The Argument In Principle
Services provided by government that directly benefit those who receive the services can also have positive or negative impacts on others. To the extent individuals receive a personal benefit, the service can be efficiently funded with user charges equal to the cost of the service. Drivers who use roads and bridges receive significant benefits from their availability, but others are also impacted. The positive consequences include more efficient labor markets and goods delivery made possible by road transportation the negative consequences are air pollution and greenhouse gases associated with cars and trucks. General subsidies should be avoided because they would underwrite and promote the negative consequences. The Citizens Budget Commission supports this strategy for financing transportation services and infrastructure in New York.4
Using the States bank settlements to subsidize the Thruway Authority deviates from these principles.5 It encourages greater motor vehicle use by permitting tolls lower than actual costs and underwrites the pollution and other negative consequences of greater use. Particularly perverse is the plan for tax credits for higher volume users those creating the largest negative consequences would pay the least.

Conduent Holds A Few Key States
Of the 27 states with toll roads The Journal News/lohud has contacted, few actually deal with Conduent.
States that do contract with the company sometimes end up in a cycle of amnesty programs like Texas, or with lawsuits like in California.
Drivers in California faced the same problems with Conduent systems as New York drivers.
Drivers in both Texas and California claimed that erroneous billing practices led to massive late-fee charges.
The issues in California eventually led to a class-action suit in 2017 thats still active. The suit charges that Xerox Conduents parent company sent out 16,000 violation notices to people who never received the initial bills.
Conduents near 50 percent hold on the tolling market comes by way of a few key contracts in large states. Even then it doesnt control every road in states where it operates.
In 2015, Conduents then operating as a part of Xerox collection systems made more than $3 billion in revenue for the MTA bridges and tunnels and the Port Authority alone, according to a survey by the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association.
Conduent works the back office operations for seven of the top 10 toll authorities, according to IBTTAs numbers. It also appears to be working on boosting that dominance, filing numerous Freedom of Information Act requests for its competitors proposals and invoices in Illinois.
New Higher Tolls For 2018
At least a half-dozen states from Florida to Colorado are slapping tolls on roads that used to be free or building toll-only lanes this year, and many more are expected to do so next year.
Elsewhere in the country, some states are moving away from the two-tiered charging system.
Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, for example, all use the same kind of transponder for electronic tolling. We have an interoperability agreement, said Rachel Bell, director of business services and customer relations at the Kansas Turnpike Authority. If you have a transponder from one of those states, you will be charged the same electronic rate as our in-state customers.
But interoperability doesnt always mean simplicity. Take Florida, for example.
The Orlando area has an E-Pass, not to be confused with an E-ZPass, said Brian Hutchings, senior communications specialist for the Central Florida Expressway Authority.
If Floridians want to travel on other states E-ZPass highways, you have to get an E-Pass Extra, he said. E-ZPass holders from other states can use that on the Central Florida roads.
You have a lot of snowbirds that come down here, and they had to have two transponders, he said. Now you can have the convenience of multi-state toll paying with one transponder. Discounts are available for some Florida roads with the E-Pass and E-Pass Extra.
However, E-Z Pass does not work on the Florida Turnpike. For that, you have to have a SunPass or other Florida-issued pass, he said.

How Long Is The Flight
Even though Washington, D.C., and New York City are relatively close, many travelers go between the two cities that several airlines offer direct flights, such as United, Delta, and American. The total time in the air is only about 1 hour, 15 minutes, but all of the other hassles that come with airport travel make taking a flight just as long as taking a train, if not longer. Direct flights are also relatively expensive, starting at about $100, or twice as much as a coach seat on Amtrak.
Both Washington and New York have three major airports each, and choosing one that is convenient for your starting and ending destination is important to cut down travel time. Ronald Reagan National Airport is the closest to the city center in Washington and the easiest to get to. Many flights also leave from Dulles Airport or Baltimore Airport , which are farther out and will add a significant amount of travel time. Flights arrive in New York at LaGuardia in Queens, John F. Kennedy Airport in Brooklyn, or Newark Airport in New Jersey, so choose the airport that is closest to your final destination.

Winters can be brutally cold while summers may be unbearably humid, so spring and autumn are the most comfortable times to visit for good weather. In spring, you can visit the Brooklyn Botanical Garden to see the blooming cherry blossoms, while in the fall Central Park turns fiery hues of orange and red as the leaves change colors. Visiting while the city is blanketed under snow has its own charm as well if you visit in the winter. And while summers may be hot, its a perfect time to hit up one of the nearby beaches.
