Leading off the top ten of our year-end countdown of the tallest buildings under construction in New York is Two Manhattan West, a 935-foot-tall commercial skyscraper in the Manhattan West master plan in Midtown West. Designed by Skidmore Owings & Merrill and developed by Brookfield, the 58-story structure rises directly south of its taller fraternal twin, One Manhattan West, and will yield 1.9 million square feet of office space. AECOM Tishman is the general contractor for the property, which is located at the northwest corner of West 31st Street and Ninth Avenue.

Work has moved closer to completion since our last update in June, with crews completing the dismantling the construction elevator from the eastern elevation facing Ninth Avenue. The gap in the glass curtain wall where it was attached will soon be all filled in, finishing off the exterior of the tower.

The crown is complete and will eventually have the same lighting system, made up of thin LED strips, seen with One Manhattan West, while also being provided with a similar building maintenance unit by R& R Scaffolding Ltd.

Convenient Location Near Times Square Theaters And Several Transportation Hubs And Subway Lines
This Courtyard is well positioned to do a sightseeing blitz. It’s about a 15-minute walk to Times Square, a nine-minute walk to Penn Station, a five-minute walk to the Port Authority bus terminal, and it’s close to several subway lines — helpful to access attractions farther afield, like the 9/11 Memorial . The Empire State Building might be a bit of a hike at 17 minutes, but it’s easy to grab a crosstown bus to visit this iconic sight. Madame Tussauds, the famous wax museum, is a seven-minute walk from the hotel, and the Broadway theater district is a 15-minute walk or an 11-minute trip via public transportation. This lively area doesn’t lack for restaurants and shopping on the hotel’s surrounding streets . LaGuardia Airport is close to a 40-minute drive from the hotel, while JFK International Airport is a bit more than an hour’s drive.

Standard Contemporary Chain Hotel With A Colorful Interior And Relaxing Spaces
With its sleek interior decor, low lighting, and pops of color, Courtyard New York Manhattan/Times Square West offers a restful spot in the midst of a busy area. The lobby is punctuated by colorful carpets with rectangular patterns, floor-to-ceiling windows, funky lights, and contemporary, boxy armchairs and sofas. While the lobby isn’t overly spacious, there are other public areas, such as the charming outdoor courtyard, where guests can sit and have a drink or meal from the hotels Bistro. The Bistro has its own distinctive decor — pops of orange complement the geometric-patterned carpet, and several tables have their own built-in TV screens. All in all, it’s a laid-back scene that hardly breaks the chain-hotel mold, but it’s location and reliability draws tourists — mostly families and couples — and business travelers.

Demolition permits have been filed for four buildings at 413-421 Ninth Avenue in Midtown West, Manhattan. The assembly of three four-story buildings and one two-story building is owned by Amit Patel of Cove Property Group under the CBP Hudson Avenue Owner LLC.
Located between West 33rd and West 34th Streets, the site has 100 feet of street frontage. No plans have been reported for the 9,480-square-foot lot.
413-421 Ninth Avenue is two blocks from the 34 Street-Hudson Yards subway station, serviced by the 7 train. Also nearby is the 34 Street-Penn Station, serviced by the A, C, and E trains.

Bad And Getting Worse
Because we have family in the area, we have stayed in this hotel for about 12 years. Sometimes as many as 20 days/year. The one good point is the beds and linens were excellent. Housekeeping did what they could. However, the facilities and the staff continue to decline. For many years there was a great manager and staff were pleasant. The slide started about 5 years ago. We even wrote to Marriott head office and got lip service but results were big nothing. The elevators, halls, and walls need major carpentry and paint. The furniture is shabby, old, paint is chipped, the tvs don’t work. The rooms are dark and half the lights don’t work. We took 2 rooms. Unbelievably there are now rooms with no safes, and others have safes that don’t work and the staff cannot fix. Front desk staff dress like they are heading to watch tv on the couch, with an attitude of: ‘Why are you bothering me?’ Friends who stayed here annually have abandoned this place because the conditions and staff were awful. In 2021 we overlooked shortcomings because of covid. However, it’s time for Marriott to turn this back into a decent hotel.More
