Richmond Hill High School Rankings: Richmond Hills Best High Schools 2020
The best high schools in Richmond Hill can be challenging to gauge. The way many parents do it is by planning to attend high schools that have very-good-to-excellent pass-rates on the EQAO test scores the Ontario government publishes every year for all publicly-funded schools in the province. Others simply rely on the SUSI Rankings to at least get a decent sense of what the best high schools in Richmond Hill might be.
RELATED: For Richmond Hill Catholic High School Rankings, go here.
However, as Real Estate professionals who have a specialty in schools, we strongly feel that there is a problem with making a determination about the best high schools in Richmond Hill based solely on EQAO pass-rates. These test scores only emanate from Grade 9 and Grade 10 students some who have attended the high school for only half a year! We wonder: How can you make a correct overall assessment of a high school based on these results alone?? The answer is: You cannot, and you really should not.
What could be just as a determining of a factor are the programs or clubs offered by each secondary school. Programs & clubs have be seen to work very well in a secondary school to keep teenagers both focused and out of trouble, and we strongly recommend that these factors be considered.
However, what the EQAO pass-rates are likely telling us is what the level of education of the incoming student population is generally, and that has been a worthwhile concern for my clients, as well.

Important: Cell Phone Policy For 2022
We are making our school a phone-free space to improve teaching and learning! We will be using a system called Yondr to achieve this goal. Yondr has been used across the world in over 1,000 schools, as well as at concerts, comedy shows, businesses, camps, weddings and special events of all kinds. The goal of these spaces is to encourage people to engage with each other and their surroundings.
We believe that cell phones have great utility. We have also found that learning and social behavior improve drastically when students are fully engaged with their teachers and classmates in an environment with no cell phones.
The Yondr Program employs a simple, lockable pouch that stores a cell phone. Every student will secure their phone in a personally assigned Yondr pouch when they arrive at school. Students will maintain possession of their phones and will not use them until their pouches are opened at the end of the school day. Students are required to bring their Yondr pouch to and from school each day and are responsible for their pouch at all times.
Bronx Latin Student Cell Phone Policy

Move To Modern Facilities
From the beginning, the Parents Association and Principal Morris Meister campaigned for a new building. The number of students exceeded the capacity of the building on 184th Street, so the top floor of Public School 85 on Marion Avenue and 187th Street was used as the “Annex.” After twenty years, but under Principal Taffel, plans were finally completed for a new $8 million building, designed by the architectural firm of Emery Roth and Sons. The new building was on 205th Street near Bedford Park Boulevard, in a predominantly institutional area, between DeWitt Clinton High School and its large football field on one side, and Harris Field and Hunter College on the other. On March 3, 1959, students and faculty occupied the new building for the first time, solving the problem of how to move the books from the old library to the new in typical Bronx Science manner: on Friday afternoon each student took home five library books from the old building, and on Monday returned them to the new one.
When Bronx Science celebrated its silver anniversary in June 1963, President John F. Kennedy hailed it as “a significant and pathfinding example of a special program devoted to the development of the student gifted in science and mathematics.” The President had recently selected one of its graduates, Harold Brown, of the class of 1943, for the position of Director of Defense Research and Engineering he would later serve as Secretary of Defense under President Jimmy Carter.
