The New York Safety Council seemed to be a pretty legit online traffic school, particularly because of the official-looking name. They offer a defensive driving course for drivers who want to get an insurance discount or have points removed from their driving record .
As with most online traffic schools, including the cheapest courses available, you have to sign up, complete the course, and submit your results to the DMV. In some schools, including the New York Safety Council, they will process the certificate for you so you dont have to file in the paperwork yourself.
When we signed up for the course, we had a promo code to knock off $5 from the total price. While the discount was reflected in our total amount, we were shocked that our credit card was still charged the full price.
Furthermore, there were add-ons after add-ons that were being advertised to us. These were simple things such as an audio upgrade, which other schools already offer for the same price that the New York Safety Council charged us upfront.
We didnt like these upsell tactics because theyre usually an indication of deceptive marketing schemes. Weve encountered other traffic schools that do this, such as TrafficSchool.com. Still, we opted to go through the course to see what weve paid for.

Beware Of Scam After Finishing The
BEWARE OF SCAM After finishing the online course about a month ago, it just ended. No further instructions No email verification sent. Nothing. You can’t get through by telephone or by chat. Twice my wait time to chat said approx 11 minutes, waited an hour, and nothing. Twice by phone waited an hour before I gave up. My time and money was wasted, I now have to re-take it with another company. I will contact my bank and report it as a fraud charge. Geico was no help. I was told they had no way to communicate with them. So how could they endorse them. DON’T USE THIS COMPANY.
