Ida Floods New York: Death Toll Rises to 41

Even if you’ve never been to New York City, everyone knows it from movies, literature, music, and pop culture. You could spend a year living in New York and you still wouldn’t be able to see all that it has to offer. If it’s your first time visiting, then there are a few must-see sites that everyone has to experience, and most of New York’s iconic sites are located in Manhattan. Around Midtown, you have Times Square, Rockefeller Center, and Grand Central Terminus. Just a few blocks uptown is the enormous Central Park, and a few blocks downtown the legendary Empire State Building dominates. Many of Manhattan’s most charming neighborhoods are below 14th Street, such as Greenwich Village, Soho, and Washington Square Park. Walk around and get lost in the endless display of designer boutiques, hip cafes, and amazing restaurants.

How Long Does It Take To Drive

Driving from New York City to Washington, D.C., takes approximately four to six hours, depending on traffic and how many stops you make. This option is ideal for families and those who wish to stop for a meal or a bit of sightseeing.

The driving time is affected by the time you leave. Rush hour traffic in either city tends to be heaviest from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The preferred route of most drivers is I-95 from Washington, D.C., through Maryland and Delaware, and then the New Jersey Turnpike through New Jersey, taking one of the exits between exits 10 through 14, and then entering New York City via a bridge or tunnel.

There are a number of tolls along the way between Washington and New York, including the Fort McHenry Tunnel in Baltimore, the Delaware Memorial Bridge straddling Delaware and New Jersey, the New Jersey Turnpike, and the bridges to New York City, such as the Goethals and the Verrazano. Expect to pay approximately $37 for tolls one way. You can pay for tolls with cash, although people who do this drive often have an E-Z Pass, which allows for quicker travel through toll plazas. If you have an E-Z Pass from another area you can use that and they will bill you.

Where Are The Most Expensive Toll Roads In The Usa

Lets take a look at the top five most expensive tollways by type. These are the main types of tollways according to the Federal Highway Administration , the leading federal agency for monitoring tollways. Part of driving safely anywhere, but especially in such congested areas, is having the right attitude. Weve talked extensively about how to control your bad attitude while driving, and its good information to keep in mind, on both tollways and regular roads.

Driving Tips Stops And Traffic

The trip from New York City to Florida takes a little over 17 hours. If you’re traveling alone, it’s probably wise to break this up into a two- or three-day trip so you can avoid getting too tired on the road. If you’re traveling with companions, split up the driving. Make time for quick breaks to stretch your legs and rest your eyes, particularly at nighttime, when the darkness and the glare of headlights can be fatiguing.

Make the most out of the trip by stopping at points of interest along the way. For travelers who enjoy exploring, websites such as Roadtrippers.com provide lists of noteworthy sites, places to eat and drink and can’t-miss natural wonders that will break up the monotony of hours on the road. These stops also offer a fascinating glimpse into the local flavor of the region. Whether your interest is old Civil War battlegrounds or the best fried chicken sandwich in every state, you can chart a course that works for you.

Unsurprisingly, traffic tends to be most significant in and around major cities during rush hour. If it’s possible to avoid major city centers before and just after rush hour, you’ll likely beat the majority of traffic on the way down to Florida.

Transponders Can Save You Money But Discounts May Not Always Apply

Establishing a transponder account can save you a lot of money through discounts, however having one doesnt mean youll automatically receive the discount everywhere you traveleven within the transponders own regional network. For example, if you established an E-ZPass account with New York you wont receive discounts as you travel through toll facilities in Maryland as those only apply to holders of Maryland E-ZPass accounts. Conversely, holders of Maryland E-ZPass accounts wont receive discounts driving on the NY State Thruway or through the tunnels and bridges entering New York City from New Jersey.

Confused? Don’t worry, the Tollsmart app will inform you of which toll facilities will provide discounts for your specific transponder.

That said, you can still save a substantial sum of money using a transponder as discounts can exceed 100% for some toll facilities like the Henry Hudson Bridge in NY.

How Much Toll Is It From Nyc To Baltimore

last month i went to balitmore i got a bill from my ezpass for over $70

I dont know if i went thru more tolls then i had to?

Please advise what the normal toll cost should be!

Sounds about right for a round trip.

Thank u so much for your answer can yu please answer the question I posted before this one in regards to hanging out alone around the inner harbor area?

Wow, been a while since I’ve driven that route – I used to do it all the time when I was in college up in NYC. Can’t believe how expensive it is now. Makes it worth it to take the train, especially when you factor in gas and traffic on 95 and the turnpike!!

Amtrak is probably doing fine in the NE corridor, but they could lower fares by $10 each way and really open themselves up to a much larger segment of the population. As it is now, if you’ve got 2 people traveling to NYC, driving is cheaper than the train — by quite a lot too.

That figure also sounds right to me. It’s also one of the reasons why I haven’t been to NY in over a decade.

Strictly speaking, using the conventional NJTP-I-95 routing for a 2-axle vehicle, the one-way toll from midtown NYC to Baltimore would be anywhere from $17.35 to $24.55…”depending on…”

*Southbound* NYC to Baltimore

**************************************

NJTP, Lincoln Tunnel to Delaware Memorial Bridge: $12.55 peak, $9.35 off-peak

Delaware Memorial Bridge: $4

McHenry or Harbor Tunnel : $4

Return trip northbound would be anywhere from $29.55 to $39.55:

JFK Highway : $7.20 or $8
