Morningside Heights Cancer Risk Stratification Company Raises $108m

PreciseDx, a cancer-risk stratification company, announced this week it has raised $10.8 million in a Series A financing round.

The Morningside Heights-based company analyzes morphology features to provide breast cancer diagnostic test services, and a prostate cancer test is in development. Morphology is the physiological characteristics that people have been using for a long time to determine what cells are abnormal and which cells are normal in a lot of lab testing, according to CEO Wayne Brinster. “We’re utilizing the power of the computer and the power of the pixelas well as AIto examine as close as possible exactly what these features are,” he said, adding that the technology would quantify the features to improve cancer treatment.

The funding round was led by the Merck Global Health Innovation Fund. Participants included IBM, Agilent, Mount Sinai Health Systems and Hobart Group. Several other investors chose to remain private. The round offered equity.

The proceeds will be used to expand PreciseDx’s workforce, which currently includes 35 employees, and to invest in scans of tissue samples. “There’s an ongoing use of funds people to complete the research and do submissions for regulatory approvals,” Brinster said. “There’s also acquisition of samples from other institutions. We’ve done a lot of work on samples we’ve gotten from Mount Sinai and others, but we want to open that up.”

PreciseDx, founded in 2021, has raised $10.8 million to date. Brandon Sanchez

What Do Dentists Do

Dr. Samer Al

Dentists are medical doctors who diagnose and treat diseases involving the mouth, gums, and teeth. They play an important role in the overall provision of health because diseases, injuries, and disorders of the mouth structures and teeth can lead to poor health outcomes overall. The health of the mouth has an impact on the health of other areas of the body too. Dentists can help you take better care of your mouth, gums, and teeth through regular cleanings, check-ups, and treatments.

Dentists perform a variety of different procedures that are geared at helping patients achieve not only good oral health, but also a pleasing aesthetic to their smile.

Many dentists provide not only general dentistry services , but also cosmetic dentistry services . Its common for dentists to provide education and advice to their patients about how to achieve better oral health and desirable cosmetic outcomes for their teeth.

New York Medicaid Coverage For Children

According to Medicaid rules and regulations, all child enrollees must receive dental screening and diagnostic and treatment benefits. Dental services covered by Medicaid minimally include the following:

· Teeth restoration

· Treatment of dental infections

· Maintenance of dental health

Any dental service that is medically necessary for a child, must be provided. The medical necessity of any given procedure, however, is determined by the state of New York. Any condition that is discovered during a check-up that requires treatment must be provided by the state, even if that procedure is not covered by the states Medicaid plan.

For children, dental services must be provided at regular intervals that are in line with reasonable standards of dental practice, or according to medical necessity. To determine medical necessity, your dentist may need to consult with state-recognized dental organizations that are knowledgeable about childrens dental needs.

Midwood Health Center’s Borough Park Extension Clinic Gets State Approval

Premium Health has received contingent approval from the state Department of Health on its application to build an extension clinic in Borough Park.

The Midwood-based federally qualified health center submitted an application in October to certify its clinic in a newly constructed building on 1575 46th St. in Borough Park. Premium received its green light last Wednesday.

The clinic, to be known as the 46th Street Extension Clinic, will occupy the cellar and ground levels of the building. The lot is slightly more than 4,000 square feet, according to city records. The total cost of the project is slightly more than $4.2 million.

The facility will provide primary care and other medical specialties and pediatric dental care. It will also provide general walk-in health care services, such as evaluation and treatment for minor acute illnesses and injuries that are not life-threatening or permanently disabling and do not require care in a hospital emergency department.

The walk-in services are described to be lower-cost alternatives to higher-cost emergency room visits. The center would fill much-needed pediatric dental care to the undeserved, vulnerable population of Borough Park.

The organization has been given the go-ahead to start construction July 1, with an expected completion date of March 2023.

Premium was founded in 2012, and it has two other locations in Borough Park offering pediatrics, podiatry, behavioral health, obstetrics and gynecology, ad women’s health. S.S.

Does New York Medicaid Cover Dental Care

New York state is required to provide dental benefits to all children who are covered by Medicaid, but adult dentistry is also covered as long as the benefits are provided for essential services only.

Treatment of baby teeth for children who are Medicaid recipients is one of the only childhood dental services that is not typically covered , but for adults in New York, Medicaid cannot be used to cover many dental services that may be covered in children.

Special rules and guidelines must be followed by the dentist you choose to work with to establish and execute a treatment plan for adult patients who are seeking dental care in New York City using their Medicaid plan.

To qualify for coverage under Medicaid, treatments often cover replacement, but not treatment of a diseased or injured tooth. Attempting to save a tooth through endodontic treatment is considered inappropriate by Medicaid if the prognosis for the tooth is questionable. In these cases, tooth extraction and replacement is generally required. If your dentist feels that treatment is the only viable thing to do, they will need to present your case to the Medicaid authorities.

Adult patients who are covered by Medicaid in New York state and who require dental care may or may not receive benefits depending on their specific situation and health status.

Doctor.com can help you find a Dentist who accepts Health First insurance in New York. A dentist is a person qualified by a doctorate in dental surgery or dental medicine , licensed by the state to practice dentistry, and practicing within the scope of that license. There is no difference between the two degrees: dentists who have a DMD or DDS have the same education. Universities have the prerogative to determine what degree is awarded. Both degrees use the same curriculum requirements set by the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation. Generally, three or more years of undergraduate education plus four years of dental school is required to graduate and become a general dentist. State licensing boards accept either degree as equivalent, and both degrees allow licensed individuals to practice the same scope of general dentistry. Additional post-graduate training is required to become a dental specialist.

Nyu Dentistry Launches Pain Research Center Backed By $45m In Funding

The NYU College of Dentistry earlier this month opened the Pain Research Center, with a focus on solving the national opioid crisis.

“Pain research has galvanized over the past dozen years because of the opioid crisis,” said Dr. Rajesh Khanna, director of the center. “However, it still has taken a back seat to other illnesses like cancer or Alzheimer’s disease because it’s not fatal.”

The center had been in the planning stage for several years by Drs. Brian Schmidt and Nigel Bunnett, a clinician and a research scientist, respectively, at the college, Khanna said. The center ended up being housed within NYU Dentistry as there were several researchers focusing on the topic, he added.

The center launched with more than $45 million in funding for research activities. This includes $8 million generated by Khanna from National Institutes of Health grants, foundations and private venture capital, as well as more than $37 million in NIH and Department of Defense grants awarded to other researchers within the center. The Japanese pharmaceutical company Takeda has committed some seed funding.

About 15 faculty members will be associated with the center, and the program has been given the green light to hire about three more each year for the next few years, Khanna said.

Innovation would not be confined to basic research, Khanna said. The point of the center, he said, is to realize solutions that can translate into tackling the opioid crisis.

Does New York Medicaid Cover Orthodontic Procedures

    Dr. Samer Al

Medicaid only covers orthodontic procedures for children under the age of 21 years who have severe, handicapping orthodontic issues.

Malocclusions is one of the only orthodontic diagnoses covered by Medicaid and it is limited to only three years of treatment plus one additional year of retention care. Children with a cleft palate may be approved for additional orthodontic treatment times under certain conditions.
